Cars and Coffee 10-15-11

I was able to come down to Newport for the weekend and that meant an obligatory Cars and Coffee run with with my Saab friend Jeff had to be made. Turnout today wasn't as plentiful as it normally is so there was plenty of parking, but the caliber of cars was still very high. There were some very interesting rides that came, in good ways and in decidedly bad ways but you can be the judge. Also, I finally got to see Jeff's beautifully refinished wheels for his SPG and good God does it look awesome.

Onto pictures. Jeff's wheels:

Speedsters were out in force as always:

A wicked Pantera, more on this car later:

This was one of our favorites of the day, a spectacularly restored E-type Jaguar:

A gorgeous GT40 with individual throttle bodies:

The car club that was hosted was the Tiger/Sprite:

A Ford Touring Type, this particular car was literally the 10 millionth Ford vehicle. You're talking big money value on this car:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1594_3413.jpg

As always, there were plenty of Porsches, including some 993s which are my favorite generation.

A mean sounding M5 with a Dinan exhaust and RPI intake scoops:

Miata, Viper, Quattroporte. Plenty of variety.

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1599_3418.jpg

One of Jeff's favorites of the day, a caged 944 Turbo:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1600_3419.jpg

A crazy crazy Van build for wheel stands, another is picture later in the thread:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1606_3423.jpg

My friend gave me a ride in his red E30 M3, what a fun car:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1607_3424.jpg

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1608_3425.jpg

The New Beetle, it is definitely a big step up from the last generation which was absolutely atrocious in every way.

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1610_3427.jpg

This Miata was not in the greatest of shape

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1613_3430.jpg

190SLs:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1614_3431.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1615_3432.jpg

A very clean wingless EVO, the color was beautiful in person:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1616_3433.jpg

Another 370Z, with a healthy drop and MRworks modded headlights. Is this anyone on here?

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1619_3436.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1612_3429.jpg

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1620_3437.jpg

A menacing Boss, it's a shame all the ones for sale in Socal have $10-20k dealer markups.

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1623_3439.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1624_3440.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1626_3442.jpg

The grossest car out there, what a shame. This car is ruined:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1629_3445.jpg

And the hat shamelessly covering the tiptronic transmission, just like last time:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1630_3446.jpg

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1631_3447.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1632_3448.jpg

This Maxima was driving up and down each lane, trolling hard:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1633_3449.jpg

Laughed at the plate, great way to advertise your convertible for sale:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1634_3450.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1635_3451.jpg

And our leaky car of the day was this spectacular Ferrari. Major oil dump, the drain plug apparently fell off and every spec of oil emptied into the parking lot:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1637_3453.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1636_3452.jpg

Then my absolute dream car showed up, instantly drawing a huge crowd. Every single curve and line on this car is perfect:

That Viper looking mean from the rear:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1648_3463.jpg

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1650_3465.jpg

Hotness:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1652_3467.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1654_3469.jpg

Some more of that Pantera, the details of this car are so well executed:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1655_3470.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1656_3471.jpg

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1658_3473.jpg
http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1660_3475.jpg

There's no shame, although it's not the most dignified way to leave Cars and Coffee:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1661_3476.jpg

There goes Jeff's 944:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1662_3477.jpg

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1663_3478.jpg

Here's that crazy rear engined van, I don't know what I'd do if I saw that driving next to me on the road:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1664_3479.jpg

And lastly, an Alfa that we were admiring:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._1667_3482.jpg

Sorry for the lack of a take off video, my GoPro's battery was dead even though I fully charged it a couple days ago which is a bummer since I got very sideways when the rear end broke loose on the 1-2 shift. Anyways, as always I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Nice pictures! Certainly loved the classics and the picture of that blonde ;)

There are definitely quite a few cars that didn't belong in that parking lot...

Is that a GT2RS or is it a fake?

waaaasabi 10-15-2011 08:12 PM

YES! Prancing moose!

Definitely fake! Pretty sure they didn't make a 996 GT2 RS...

christian370z 10-15-2011 08:21 PM

There was never a GT2 RS for the 996 generation. If there was, there has never been a single RS model that is offered with anything other than a manual transmission. The guy is such a poseur.

Great pics!

Nice looking pictures, I wish the BP meet had spaced out cars like that, I didn't have a lot of angles to work with.

toxik 10-15-2011 11:00 PM

Pantera.... wow

SPOHN 10-15-2011 11:21 PM

I don't think I've ever seen a chop top van before.

Tell me about it! I had a very hard time getting clean shots of cars, that's why I have so many close ups haha. How many cars showed up at the meet do you think?

That is one of the most detailed builds I've seen yet. You're talking body color matched brake master cylinders, carbon fiber leather Recaro seats, everything is chrome or high heat coated, shaved engine bay, AP Racing brakes, it goes on and on. This is just what I could visually identify!

It was literally build specifically to run wheelies down the quarter, it was truly insane!

phelan 10-16-2011 01:25 AM

chris, other than the 15 select cars, maybe 30 others? it was a pretty small meet...in a pretty small lot lol.

98intrigue 10-16-2011 09:37 AM

Interesting collector setup...

That car sounded positively evil on the way out, I think the header designs on Panteras and the Ultima GTR are gorgeous:
