Honda has a 200 point QC check where they check just about EVERYTHING involving the car. This includes the ability to withstand redlining, anti-lock breaking at speeds over 35, and resistance to FLOODING. Yes, you read it right, they test their cars against flooding by partially submerging them and hosing them for a good 5 minutes and checking to see if any water got into the car. If water got in, it's DQed and sent to a team to be fixed. The only thing they don't check is collision and any sensors tied to that, although the sensors themselves are tested before they're placed in cars.
So when you get your specially ordered car with only 5-6 miles on it, chances are those were some ****** up 5-6 miles. If that scares you, I am sorry, but it is a neccessary evil in order for car companies to give you the guarantees that they do. I have NO idea what Nissan puts their cars through, but I am willing to bet its similar to Honda. edit: If you're wondering about the submerging, they hose the car in a sealed room until the water level just starts to pass the base of the car. |

Yes, they do. Alot of the 200 point checks are the controls and motors. For S2000s, that's Japan's QC policy, so I do not know if they check as many things as the US plants do. Another thing to note is that not every car goes through the entire 200 point process. At Honda, all of them went through instrument checks and basic driving tests, but only a few from each "batch" would go through the extreme stuff, like flood resistance, high temperature tests, and such.
