one bad day for a canyon run
so i read a post on here from HTT760 in the sd thread that there was going to be a canyon run a few days ago that the z32 guys were setting up. i'd thought it would be fun to take my 370z and fiance out on a canyon run since the z had been sitting in the garage. we met up with everyone this morning. we were the first ones there and to follow was a red gtr, 3 or 4 z32 guys another 370z and a pontiac. everyone was really nice and greeted each other. i then mounted my go pro but didnt turn it on. i didnt want to turn it on until we got into the canyon. then we headed out into towards the canyon. maybe 5 minutes into the canyon, "chris", a z32 driver takes a turn too hot, looses traction and rolled his z32 right in front of us. he wasnt going very fast, he just hit a patch of dirt it seemed like and lost it. i then quickly pulled over and ran to help him out but by the time i got to him he was already out of the car. he came out of the car with only scratches and was perfectly ok, just shaken up. the car is done but as long as chris is ok, thats all that matters and could have been a lot worse! jusrt want to say if any of you do any spiritual driving in mountains or canyons, please be carefull and please be safe about it! im not trying to preach but i would, along with your z friends would hate to here you died on a spirited run. so please be carefull out there. oh and chris rode along with another z32 driver to finish the run and had lunch with us. i think i wouldve gone home and cried! haha
i have a lot more pix but, ya know. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/00559.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/00459.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/00359.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/01959.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/02159.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/02359.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/02559.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/03459.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/04759.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/06159.jpg |
Not going very fast you say?
i was stuck behind a toyota yaris, he was in front of the toyota yaris , maybe doing 40???? cant be much faster than that. the rollover was really slow though, thats why he didnt get hurt
Wow, wouldn't have imagined a rollover at 40. Crazy stuff. At least he came out of it though.
Rolled going 40?................
i was only doing 25 because of the toyota. the turn wasnt that far up ahead, im guessing 40. its only a NA z32, not a TT but im not the speedometer, so only he knows what he was really doing. it didnt look that fast though. it wasnt even that hard of a corner
edit: fiance says closer to 55-60 which would make more sense. i have bad judgement when it comes to that stuff. probably more realistic. the driver said 40 though i looked at my speedo though and said 25ish. we were stuck behind grandma |
ur car is fn nice dude.. maybe he was checking out your sweet headlights in his mirrors and didnt see the turn coming
I know the couple with the red GT-R. I got a ride in it last August.
They stated that it was loose gravel on the road that made him lose control and flip. |
I'm suprised the roll back operator didn't flip the car rightside up. I never see them winch a car on upside down
Driver crawled out and even finished the cruise with us as a passenger.. :)
Shoulda left VDC on ;)
So it was a left hand curve. The driver got into the dirt, over-corrected, spun around, and his rear hit the bank on the other side of the road. When his rear hit, it caused kind of a slow motion roll over. This is how he described it and his skid marks concurred.

wow, thank god he is ok. like you said, I would have had to go home and cry for the next couple of weeks. I can't believe he was able to sit it out and continue on with the run

in all honesty, with the way I am about my cars, I would be a mess for a while because that's like your baby you know. If it was a GT-R, I would need to go to rehab lol |

sorry to see that, but hell hes okay and highway patrol didn't look 2 concerned. Did they write him for it or just let it be a lesson?

Loose gravel is no joke.
LOL at the tow truck driver not bothering to tow the Z on it's wheels. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...2win/04759.jpg |
^haha didnt even notice that. every time i have ever seen they usually flip it back over
what canyon was it?
well we werent in the canyon yet. it was on otay lakes road east in otay ranch right by the reservoir near chula vista

were you guys on your way to julian?
It was a casino canyon run the z32 guys do once a year. They take the back roads from chula vista ( telegraph canyon) to viejas casino in alpine
this looks like hwy 94 where i go riding with my biker buddies..glad he came out alive..not a lot of rider had same luck..
danggg.... 40 mph doesnt sound right for some reason to get it to roll unless he lost control in the dirt or something.
I'm sure he rolled when he went up the bank. You don't need to carry too much speed for a lazy roll if you slide into an earth bank.
all i saw was a huge dust cloud caused by his right rear tire and we came around the turn and it was rolled. so ya he def hit a lot of loose gravel
