As for the spec work request. I agree this doesn't help established designers.
But if someone were to just start off and needed to build a portfolio, this is a great chance to get their work "published"

i can relate to this.... same thing happens in the computer industry. once you tell people that you work on computers, 95% of the time the next question is "hey, i got this problem with my computer....."
