I am past the 36k mile coverage and was wondering if this would fall under powertrain.... it isnt part of the actual tranny (no jokes plz) but as a whole its needed.... Im hoping some good news comes out of this or am I just trying to make it sound like a justifiable claim haha??

Any help would be great.

Did the manager explain what could have caused the malfunction?

No, I am pretty sure they just figured it out this morning that was what failed and they wont find out until later why.... but I will be sure to ask why when I pick it up.
Either way I drive pretty hard (all of my cars thru the years) but its not something that fails regularly so I am curious to find out what it is.
