Im just begining to research this prob. I get a grind going into 3rd and 5th sometimes, usually during a harder, faster shift. If I take it easy putting it into gear it doesnt really happen. Looks like Im gonna have to look into replacing it The LAST thing I want is the dealership to be working on my car

The simplest gear train is a pair of meshing gears. The input gear drives the output gear. Gear teeth are designed so the pitch circles of the two gears roll on each other without slipping. The velocity v of the point of contact of the two pitch circles are the same, therefore where input gear GA has radius rA and meshes with output gear GB of radius rB.

Ok so good this topic came up, mine grinds going from 4th to 5th and I took it to Nissan but the car decided not to do it that day I even took a test-drive with the tech and nothing. But now it does it here and there from the same gears =((

Are all you guys running the OEM fluid?
It seems like Nissan really sucks with choosing their OEM fluids. First, I read that guys are swapping to different yet qualified engine oils and the motors are running smoother. And, now this. Sounds like I'm going to switch my trans fluid to something better/aftermarket as well. |

I know that this thread is a little bit old but I wanted to add my story to it that just happened to me.
So a while ago I had made a post about my 6th gear not working right. At the time I didn’t know about this thread. I found it after I did a bunch more looking into what was wrong with my car. Well anyway my original problem was that my car wouldn’t shift well when driving fast maxing out first then second and being in third for a bit and then going right into 6th. The car sometimes wouldn’t engage 6th gear and I would get a grinding noise. At first I thought that I hadn’t pushed in the clutch all the way or that I was shifting wrong. Well I have been driving a manual since day one of driving and I just thought may be I was doing it wrong for some reason. I just stopped skipping gears and the problem wouldn’t be an issue. Well last week Saturday while driving to a friends house my, I placed my car into 6th driving normally going through all the gears and it happened. The car wouldn’t go into 6th. If I forced it, it would go in but I hated doing that. Then after two days even trying to force it in, it wouldn’t go. Then I was a bit scared because I have a new twin turbo, aftermarket clutch, flywheel, csc and exhaust. I thought that if I took it into Nissan they would say your aftermarket parts caused this. But after driving around for a week and having no 6th gear I said even if its not covered by warranty I still need to get this fixed. So on Friday of last week I took my car into a Nissan dealership that is close to my house. I went in and told the Nissan guys straight up, I have a lot of aftermarket parts in my car and I have been skipping gears. I even told them that I don’t care if its not going to be covered my warranty that I just wanted it fixed. The car knew me from all the times I take my car in for oil changes and just wrote on the ticket that 6th gear not working. So I thought alright this guy is going to hook me up and not tell anyone about my aftermarket parts. Well after waiting for about 2 hours the guy comes back and says “my mechanic cant find anything wrong with your car” and I was like you got to be kidding me! So then he said do you want to take him for a drive to show him what your talking about and I was like sure as my 6th gear doesn’t work at all. I get in my car with the lead mechanic of their shop that was there at the time and take him for a little drive. We get going and I try shifting into 6th gear and it doesn’t work. It even makes that grinding nosie that makes my stomach just turn. The super Nissan mechanic in all his wisdom tells me that I am shifting wrong. I was like ok Ill play your little game what am I doing wrong. He tells me that since I have a turbo on that I have to wait for the boost pressure to build up before I shift into 6th. I told him that he was wrong and that If you drive your car and shift at lower rpms that your car is like an N/A car as your not building boost. He told me I was wrong and asked me if he could drive to show me what he was talking about. I was very annoyed but I thought just let him show me what he is talking about. So I pull over and let him start driving. We start going and then he punches it in 1st then 2nd and then 3rd, 4th, 5th and then slams 6th into gear. I was like holy crap what are you doing. He then down shifts and does it again to go faster. When he down shifts the syncro rev match kicks on and he says” do you hear that? That is your turbo charging boost to help you go into 6th. That’s the higher rpms that I was talking about” I then said pull the car over and get the hell out of my car! I gave him a ride back and told him that no one at his dealership is going to touch my car. I couldn't believe that a certificated Nissan mechanic just told me that. I was totally pissed off. So yesterday I thought let me try another dealership. I then took it to a dealership that is about 30 miles from my house. I was up front again and right when I said my 6th gear didn’t work the very first thing the guy said was can you leave your car hear for a couple days. I was like thank goodness they believe me. Well I just got a phone call and they said that my transmission was bad and he had called Nissan to ask them what they should do since I have all the aftermarket parts on? Nissan told him to go a head and replace my transmission but to tell me that since I have all those parts on that if it happens again that my warranty isnt going to cover it. I was so damn happy when he said that. So my new transmission is being shipped from LA and should be in by Friday or Saturday and ill have my baby back. Just wanted to share my experience with everyone and to tell you guys that if you take it to one dealership and the guys there are like the first guys that looked at my car, super mechanics not to give up and keep trying to you find the answer your looking for. |

I do feel a little bad because my roommate who drives a EVO-X had his transmission crap out some rods or something. He took it in to the dealership to have them fix it. The dealer said it was his fault because he has a aftermarket clutch. He is trying to dispute it but its been 3 months and he is still with out his car. The dealership took pictures of his aftermarket seats saying he most be racing it because he has 5 point harness. When I told him Nissan was going to fix my car under warranty, he was like great the car with an aftermarket turbo, clutch, flywheel gets its warranty but my stock EVO-X with a new clutch and seats dose not. I just smiled and said should of bought a Nissan. I was just kidding of course as his car is nice but what are friends for

I had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. I was getting off the freeway and it was grinding real loud going from 2nd to 3rd gear. I have an 7AT but i was in manual mode.
I took it to the dealer and he drove it around and couldnt hear the noise. I played him a clip from my phone and everything! It went away though and hasn't come back. It went on for about a week. I have 40k miles |
