Has anyone successfully installed an aftermarket gps/computer in the storage box on a 09' touring Z?

To me that middle door in the 350 & 370 serves of no purpose unless the car has the NAV. They should done some other design for the cars without NAV, usable space.

take it another step and hardwire your nav (near end of thread). http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...rsion-2-a.html i ended up wrapping it with DiNoc CF at the end. looks great. :p http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...av-bracket.jpg |

I liked your design so much that I copied it. However, I had some additional considerations - we use the GPS in another car and in a boat. Therefore, I wanted to keep the suction cup mount intact.
I bent a piece of scrap sheet metal in the same shape as yours and then attached the disc that came with the Nuvi 1450 GPS. Then I put some rubber tape on the bracket to keep from scratching the dash. I did not use a hinge, which is an elegant approach, but it works fine anyway. The mount is solid and doesn't vibrate. The pictures are shown here in case someone else has similar thoughts. Thanks, Rangercarol |
looks good and good idea.
actually it's modshack's design that i copied. :D it's been very reliable. |
I like this idea, I'm tired of sticking mine to the glass... I'm sure it's not too hard to put the GPS in the cubby on the Z... Many FI Z's hide their boost controllers in there. I wish my G had a better place to mount my Garmin.

does your G37C have the power socket next to the dash like mine? i got this adapter that holds the nav at the socket. i had to tighten the friction by adding a thin piece of hard plastic on the socket side, but that was the only mod needed. i dont usually remove my nav so it just stays like this. i bought through amazon, comes with a USB plug. this is on my G35C. http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...-finished2.jpg |
^ nah.. Mine has a power socket much lower more towards the middles front where the shifter is located so it would interfer with the gear shift.
