Shops can't install parts you ordered?
I don't know if it's a texas thing but I just ordered a south bend stage 3 clutch kit and all the shops around me are saying they can't do the install because they didn't order it so they would be liable for blah blah blah. So basically I have a dying clutch and nobody to install the new one.
Back in LA the shop I went to did whatever I wanted them too. Didn't matter who ordered what part. Z clinic is a little bit far for me. I'm in south austin, but if anyone knows a place that likes to make money and work on cars, like a normal business would, feel free to chime in as well :) |
Go to a ghettoer shop

I think member Chuck33079 offers install services out of his shop. He's in houston. Send him a pm and see if he's willing to help you out

Sorry Kat, I tried:p |
There's a big colorful racetrack in Austin and you are saying no one can do it for you? If all else fails, use the Yellow Pages.

They'll install whatever. Kat, just to make sure... You have a replacement CSC too for install right? |
Forget the yellow pages, i was just kidding. Not even sure if people know what that it. Anyway, lots of members in Austin should be able to refer you Kat.

Austin woot woot. The z shop wanted to charge me over 200+ for installing drop ins. That took me an hour.

Find a tuner shop. Someplace that has a dyno or sets up cars for the track.
A local shop that mainly does oil/battery/tire type stuff may be stymied if you show up with a turbo kit. EDIT: Even for a clutch, find a shop accustomed to working with modified cars. |
It's not just a TX thing. The shop doesn't make any money on the parts and, if the part is bad, they have a pissed-off customer who will swear to all their friends that the shop screwed up, and warranty claims can get complicated. Because of that, many shops will not install parts they don't supply.
As the other posters have mentioned, you'll just have to look around for a shop that is not so skittish about customer-supplied parts. You may have better luck if you look in some of the smaller towns around you. Good luck in your quest. |

No shop should charge for something like that btw. |

I take it that u don't want to take it to a Nissan dealership? I know they will install any part u bring them, at least here in Canada they do.
If you're having trouble with shops and u don't have the tools to diy.... May be you're only option...... |

Edit: Just go with SoulSpeed! |

Luckily I was able to swallow my coffee and didn't spray it all over my monitor. If ya can't fix it with vise grips and some duct tape, it ain't broke. :) |

I agree with the earlier comment to take it to a tuner shop. Dealers here in Houston will not install, modify, or adjust anything if it involves an aftermarket part.
I would definitely chose a shop that caters to performance enthusiasts as opposed to a Firestone. |

I have no personal experience with Soul Speed, but I have heard positive things. Also, if a shop refuses to install parts you bring in yourself, then don't give them your business and tell others not to use them. They are just being greedy because they want the 10% markup they charge for buying your parts for you. Their liability is the same regardless of whether they bought the parts or not, so don't believe any of that nonsense. |
yah, ive had these bonehead shops that say they honor 'factory warranty' turn down a simple catback install back in the day. i had hurt my back so just wanted a shop to do it, but then after asking a few of these cheezeball wannabie a world class car manufacturer shop but in reality they're just a loser pop shop, i decided to just install it myself at the kenchan's garage.

I went to Z clinic and he got it out same day. THEY HAVE A PET BENGAL!! It was awesome. The new clutch is weeeiiirrddd I'm not used to it. I can have it in second gear and never step on the gas and it'll just keep driving. That's normal... right? I haven't really pushed it much cause I was stuck in traffic the whole way but I mean it works. I don't know what I'm doing

OP how much labor they charged you for the clutch and flywheel install?
Once you get the chance to review the southbend stage 3 would love to hear it! Thanks |
615 total. 450 ish for the clutch and 150 ish for the cylinders. Sure, I'll write one once I get to play with it for a while :)

I'll PM you my number and maybe we can get together sometime. I'd be interested to drive your clutch around the block and see what you mean by weird. You can drive mine and see what you think of my RJM pedal. I have it set up with a very short/low engagement, but you will still notice a significant difference in the pedal movement itself. Quote:
