Shops can't install parts you ordered?

I don't know if it's a texas thing but I just ordered a south bend stage 3 clutch kit and all the shops around me are saying they can't do the install because they didn't order it so they would be liable for blah blah blah. So basically I have a dying clutch and nobody to install the new one.

Back in LA the shop I went to did whatever I wanted them too. Didn't matter who ordered what part. Z clinic is a little bit far for me. I'm in south austin, but if anyone knows a place that likes to make money and work on cars, like a normal business would, feel free to chime in as well :)

I think member Chuck33079 offers install services out of his shop. He's in houston. Send him a pm and see if he's willing to help you out

There's a big colorful racetrack in Austin and you are saying no one can do it for you? If all else fails, use the Yellow Pages.

No, Kat needs to go to a place with the name Jose, or Pancho in it.

They'll install whatever.

Kat, just to make sure... You have a replacement CSC too for install right?

Forget the yellow pages, i was just kidding. Not even sure if people know what that it. Anyway, lots of members in Austin should be able to refer you Kat.

UPREV is in Austin. That is where I had my first clutch installed at.

Austin woot woot. The z shop wanted to charge me over 200+ for installing drop ins. That took me an hour.

Reach out to JARBlue. He knows things about Texas.

Find a tuner shop. Someplace that has a dyno or sets up cars for the track.

A local shop that mainly does oil/battery/tire type stuff may be stymied if you show up with a turbo kit.

EDIT: Even for a clutch, find a shop accustomed to working with modified cars.

SouthArk370Z 01-15-2015 05:38 AM

It's not just a TX thing. The shop doesn't make any money on the parts and, if the part is bad, they have a pissed-off customer who will swear to all their friends that the shop screwed up, and warranty claims can get complicated. Because of that, many shops will not install parts they don't supply.

As the other posters have mentioned, you'll just have to look around for a shop that is not so skittish about customer-supplied parts. You may have better luck if you look in some of the smaller towns around you.

Good luck in your quest.
