car died on side of the road

Like the title said, im driving and all of a sudden the engine just died. Zero response to throttle input. Steered myself onto the shoulder and checked oil first. Full. The car cranks but doesnt start or immediately dies. I dont know what to do at this point. Having a friend meet me and call a tow truck. The car is throwing a p0300 code and P2A00 and P2A03.
Is there any glimmer of hope that this isnt catastrophic?

90 ST 01-14-2015 05:15 PM

Unless there was a loud bang, or some other not good noise your probably ok, might just be a sensor.

maizenblue 01-14-2015 05:16 PM

I didnt hear any noises. So I guess theres that. It just stopped responding all of a sudden

Tadpole 01-14-2015 05:18 PM

All three codes are related to O2 sensors. I dont think its catastrophic but you are broke down so that sucks...

Zbrah 01-14-2015 05:20 PM

Damn, I hope it isn't something serious. Good luck bro.

maizenblue 01-14-2015 05:20 PM

At least its a nice toasty 10 degrees outside. Fml

:iagree:

You should be able to hear it whine when the engine is on.

maizenblue 01-14-2015 06:22 PM

I dont think its the fuel pump. The car is turning over now and misfiring and then stalls if I let off the gas

kenchan 01-14-2015 06:27 PM

case of bad gas?

:rofl2:

DEpointfive0 01-14-2015 08:02 PM

OP, years/miles on your car?

Can we get some more info about your car itself?

maizenblue 01-14-2015 08:04 PM

2010, 63k
its got injen intakes and hfc and a cbe. I had it tuned a few weeks ago but I flashed it back to stock a week or so ago because it had misfired once after it was tuned. The P0300 light has been on for a few weeks but this is only the 2nd time there has ever been a feelable misfire

kenchan 01-14-2015 08:20 PM

sounds like you already found the root cause to the problem(s)

maizenblue 01-14-2015 08:21 PM

Yes, I was aware it had been misfiring. But it surprised me that it just died without putting up a fight. It just shut off out of nowhere and misfired after I started her back up.

kenchan 01-14-2015 08:23 PM

i think it was just overwhelmed with the cold/dry air and watever winterized fuel you put in

maizenblue 01-14-2015 08:25 PM

I guess ill find out tomorrow. I towed it back to the dealer I work at. Ill have one of my buddies take a look at it. Was just freaking out when it happened

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

njobe89 01-15-2015 07:49 AM

did you find out what was wrong... might still be early :D

maizenblue 01-15-2015 01:45 PM

My buddy said its the fuel pump. Theres no fuel pressure

brucelidat 01-15-2015 01:47 PM

i had my fuel pump die a few months ago in a similar scenario.

Zbrah 01-15-2015 02:05 PM

Any symptoms before it went out?

brucelidat 01-15-2015 02:15 PM

Car had trouble starting occasionally which I solved by giving it a bit of gas while starting. I thought it was just some weird quirk. Other than that, which wasn't consistent, it just died while driving. OEM fuel pump is expensive BTW.

Zbrah 01-15-2015 02:58 PM

It's Not cover under warranty? How much did it set you back for this repair?

brucelidat 01-15-2015 03:04 PM

I was over 3 years. It was in the $700 range.

Zbrah 01-15-2015 03:13 PM

I see. Another thing I have to save my pennies for, I'm also over the 3 year BTB coverage:rolleyes:

brucelidat 01-15-2015 03:19 PM

I think mine was faulty. Fuel pumps shouldn't be going out that quick.

maizenblue 01-15-2015 03:21 PM

Mine died out of nowhere. I see theres a walbro pump for 98 dollars and a case of beer for my friend to install

kenchan 01-15-2015 04:41 PM

UPDATE ROOT CAUSE: Driver

brucelidat 01-15-2015 05:26 PM

I always filled up just a bit under halfway. I didn't drive it all the way to empty. I also only use 76 and Chevron gas, no Arco, Valero, or anything like that. Not sure how else the driver would kill the fuel pump.

Zbrah 01-15-2015 05:30 PM

I fills up at 3-4 dots but a couple times I did let go until the empty indicator light comes on, but. I very rarely flogged it. Crossing my fingers this doesn't happen to me, atleast not anytime soon.

cab83_750 01-26-2015 03:51 AM

I can't speak for the "Nissan" fuel pump, but based on my decades with cars, it would not be unusual for a pump to go out at 70,000. This is a mtce item much like a water pump.
