vehicles with good results. Not as good as this though. By the way, the throttle bodies were really bad. Nasty. I used the BG 3 step kit. Throttle body cleaner, Intake cleaner ran via a spray nozzle on both intake sides, the last step running the car on their product to clean the fuel injectors. The 44K goes into a full tank of fuel as a finishing cleaner. Last edited by Spooler; 01-11-2015 at 01:19 PM. |

Whether or not seafoam works (I used to use it), I will say that this video is pretty lame and doesn't prove anything other than the point that [Not all of the smoke coming out of the tailpipe while seafoaming is carbon]. I don't think anyone would argue that. Seafoam is also advertised as having other benefits (like cleaning the fuel system) which he doesn't test.
I think what he'd have to do is have a two engines that are brand new and identical, run them both for a while. Seafoam one of them, and then dismantle the engines, scrape out all the carbon deposits and weigh them. Seafoam truly might not be doing anything, but his video sucks as proof.

I run a bottle of Techron through the tank before every oil change. It's good stuff and using it as a PM method rather than waiting until things are gummed up is a good approach. Why pay the dealer hundreds of $$ for them to do a "fuel injector service" when you can keep them clean yourself ? Redline fuel system cleaner is also highly rated. I also add some Marvel Mystery Oil (about 6 oz) every 2-3 tankfuls. It does not serve the same purpose as Techron, it acts as a lubricant/solvent for the fuel pump and sender unit to help counteract the crappy gas we get here in CA, even the top tier brands. I find that after a tank with MMO added, the often cited problem with the gas gauge not showing a full tank when known to be topped off goes away for a while so I have pretty strong evidence of it's efficacy.

Mostly. I really got benefit from the cleaners, must be far cheaper than a service. Last edited by felix0121; 01-14-2015 at 02:39 PM. |

I just tried a bottle of Royal Purple Max Clean from Pep Boys (also at Walmart for cheaper), can't say enough good things. I'm still on the tank that I added it to so I don't know if it will fall off next time I fill up but there was a noticeable difference in my car. I have about 55K miles, bought my car in AZ so I don't know what their gas is like or if the other owner used premium gas and the car always felt somewhat sluggish 1st and 2nd gear even with CAI and FI exhaust added on. With the Max Clean I feel like the car wants to go in the lower gears and it's more responsive in 3-6. Is this what it feels like when you go to higher end fuel injectors? If so that may be my next purchase.

I doubt it would have had such a noticeable difference, especially without finishing the tank of gas. Has anything else changed? Has there been a drop in ambient temps lately?

Of course Techron and its clones work - Top Tier gasoline uses it in diluted forms, if it didn't, they'd use something else. Techron is very conservative in its use of PEA, and is thus recommended by manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi/VW/Porsche. If you're going to use any FI cleaner, use one that is PEA based. I like to run some Gumout Regane every 6 months. Another good cleaner is RedLine Sl-1.

Just stick to top tier gas like chevron and shell, I'd also just stick to chevron techron concentrate or that Lucas bottle. Though it's true, the car won't really need it you'll notice the gains only briefly while the bottle is in play. That's only because the additives are making your octanes a little higher and makes your car run at a higher temperature to help break down any build up. However, once you get to about a quarter tank or your next fuel up you may notice a slight drop in performance.
I'd strongly advice against any other additive and be careful. My experience with this has led me to have to replace my fuel pump because it's clogged or something. It happened after I used Zmax oil and fuel system cleaners at the same time. The car was running very well for a little then suddenly I started having issues with start ups. The car sounds like it's drowning or something and I have to sit there for like 30 mins just trying to get gas to the lines. Luckily I got my new pump in just yesterday Walbro 400lph haha. By the way anyone know of a good DIY link for a fuel pump? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
