Subway
What if Nissan, or any manufacturer of high performance cars, was like Subway? I mean, what if the chassis (say the 370's or GTR's) were akin to the bread at Subway, and meat was akin to the engine?
You could put an LS7 V8 in a 370 chassis, or a Viper engine in a GT-R, vice versa, so on and so forth? Wouldn't that be awesome?! How about a 5.0 Coyote V8 in a 370? I praise domestic V8s because hp and torque come easy. I don't like FI because it's like a high drama g/f; very difficult to keep calm and running well. And Ford and GM will allow you to buy these crate engines. And they're cheap considering the level of performance you get with them. Forget $20,000+ builds (FI with tuning and installation and miscellaneous parts). Oh yeah, forgot, eat fresh;) |

Jk man would be pretty awesome... however I don't consider any of the motors you mentioned as being "cheap" |

High performance cars should follow this Subway, or "Dell computer" model.
Lotus does it because it doesn't want to invest the R&D and other costs to make its own engine; they use Honda DOHC VTECs or the Toyota VVTis... Hipo cars should be open-platform. |
I get what you mean, but Subway SUCKS. Their bread is awful, and so is their meat. Anyway, I was thinking about this after my 12th Heineken one night. It would be cool...but will never happen. Like my other drunken ideas.

^fine, then Jersey Mikes LOL

^what do you think you put into your car, total, to get it to that level?

wtf?

Every side, sauce, seasoning, and add on available on the subway menu. olives, peppercinni, lettuce, tomato, onion, picks, avocado, mustard, etc. |
^nah man, lots of people with built cars tell me what they have into it. If it was prying or an unwritten rule I wouldn't have asked. To each his own.
I'm just curious as to how much he put into it in order to get his car that fast. Those are like Zr1 or GT-R numbers there. Anyways, with about 20 Gs...you can have a low 12 sec car without the fussiness of FI. And it's reliable: no overheating, no constant need to tune, no worrying! V8 baby ;) When is Hinson or whatever going to offer no-headache Chevy LS swap kits for the Z34. I'd be so on it if they did. I'm sure it won't be that much longer. The 350Z already has one... |
If Nissan was like Subway, I would walk or hitch-hike.
The Subway model appeals to the lowest common denominator of consumers, offering bland, uninspired choices to maximize appeal across the widest swath possible. Boycott chain stores of all kinds. Do not be duped by the purveyors of cookie-cutter mass-appeal products. Stand up for your own beliefs (if you have any of your own). Think for yourselves. Ignore advertising. Pull up your friggin' pants. Throw away your ear-rings and stupid friggin' hipster hats. Learn to write sentences. Leave your iPhone at home for a day. Learn and embrace independence and free thought. Toss a Prius or two off a cliff. Date intelligent women. Shun mediocrity in all its forms. Finally -- have a great day. Being a real human and not one of the smiling, brainwashed masses is tough work. |
^Sir (you're 54 y.o. per your avatar), personally, I hold to a lot of conservative values, especially fiscal policy, albeit I wouldn't consider myself a Republican. I'm college-educated and developed a neutral mind, I think. If you don't like Subway, that's cool. I just used it as a figurative reference. And usually, the hipsters are the ones who shun franchised businesses for the mom & pop ones...Wearing your heart on sleeve will get you in a lot of trouble; I learned the hard way, because I used to do this. But in subtle ways, you will preclude any potential connections that you could've made. Apprehensive people think they know it all. It emanates from fear.
To each his own. |

I think the point is you can build a 500hp LS for under 5k...now we just need a bolt in swap for the 370z.

That's what I'm talking about. But the motors are closer to 10kish, but still a bargain. When the Z34 is obsolete (the z35 is out), I'm sure there will be many swap kits. They're seamless too which makes them appealing. |

In all honesty this is pretty much what they do with the Mustang. Multiple engine choices, thousands of ways to personalize it etc.

I like Mustangs, not so much Harleys.;) People whining about the performance (or lack of) of the Z car need to remind themselves what the Z was meant to be in the first place. It's sport, not muscle. Sure it outperformed Mustangs back in the 90s... because Ford's 5.0 and 4.6 were turds in stock trim, not because Nissan's V6 was so awesome. Now that the domestics have entered the 21st century (finally) the V8 is going to win every time against a naturally aspirated V6. Also, I agree with whoever said that the rest of Nissan's lineup is lackluster. Aside from the 370 and the GTR they don't make anything I'd want.:shakes head: |
terrible analogy tbh

The Juke is pretty cool, but otherwise Nissan is a pretty boring company. At least it's not as boring as Honda. I think the only reason Honda sells cars is they have decent build quality (like everyone else now) and a great reputation. At least in the states, where we don't get the Honda NSX or Civic R |

A lot of people on here want more power via FI, building NA, etc. But i like linear torque and reliability and at least 20mpg. I got 18 when i had my 370. I understand why some of you jump on my throat about this. You think it's sacrilege to "bastardize" a Z34 with a Chevy LS V8
Like it or not, it's inevitable. And it's not because i say so, it will just happen. Yeah Subway sucks. Lee's Sandwiches, Togos is ok, deli sandwiches at good mom & pop places r great. |

What transmission r u trying to use that thing with? I mean it isnt impossible, but lets say it cost 25k to buy parts and make it custom fit ur self, for that $ u can drop titanium internals in the Z and boost it to ~1000hp if done ur self. |

After I sold my 370 a couple years ago, I wanted another sports car. Honestly, I didn't think the Z was fast enough stock. It just didn't have the pep to its step imo...I drove plenty of C5 Vettes, the C5 Z06 (with 385 hp), a 6 speed C6, a 2002 Viper...I was into the Honda swap thing back in the late 90s to early 2000s... I want more torque obviously, and it to be linear. I like Japanese sports cars' aesthetics better than domestics,' but like domestics' power delivery much better. I saw this recently...and I was blown away
