$ 1,000 ....

Good Morning All,
So my mother just informed me that this year I will be getting $ 1,000 for christmas as part of the inheritance that she received from my grandmother. My question for all you guys (and Gals! ) out there is what wold you recommend in upgrades? I drive an 09 Nissan 370z Nismo. I don't want any exterior upgrades as I already love the lock of my whip. I'm really in the market to increase my HP. I understand it's only 1K but I work fulltime so this on top of what I have should be able to land me some nice parts. What are your suggestions?
Thanks! :happydance:

If the budget is $1000, buy a Stillen G3 and bank the rest. If the budget is $1700~, exhaust and intake

madwi 12-10-2014 06:44 AM

Naaawwwwwwwwwwz!

Zoren 370 12-10-2014 06:47 AM

Just don't let Obama knows about your inheritance as you will only be good for a K&N drop ins rather than a Stillen gen 3! Lol

mishuko 12-10-2014 06:59 AM

definitely the gen 3's and save the rest for gas =P or maintanence/tires etc...

or if you're real frugal just slap on a +5 hp sticker and bank the rest.

Chuck33079 12-10-2014 07:22 AM

Used cat back and a set of MAF tubes and drop ins. Sway bars if you've got money left over.

Keithbeeesh 12-10-2014 08:06 AM

alright settle down lads settle down, what I really wanted to do was put it away and save my own 1,000 by xmas and than after the new year purchase a new exhaust. Which is a better way to start, the exhuast or the Stillen G3? And any recommendations on exhaust systems? I wish I could afford the Quad :yum:

stillens... cause you can install it yourself. all you need is a wrench set, 5$ dremel bit a bit of elbow greese and you're good to go!

the CBE you probably will nee a bit more than 1000 includin the installation...

any exhaust gives relatively similiar power. it's all about what your ears like!:driving:

6MT-Z34 12-10-2014 08:16 AM

if you can find a good deal on both Gen 3's CAI and some ART pipes you will be good

Keithbeeesh 12-10-2014 08:23 AM

Alright Well looks like I'm going to be leaning more towards the Gen 3 first!

Merv 12-10-2014 08:23 AM

Depending on where you live, high flow cats or test pipes and cai's. I think that will free up the most ponies for the money spent.

Zoren 370 12-10-2014 08:38 AM

Dude lighten up this is a car forum not a political scene my comment was pure out of fun nothing really against the presidency. Lets have fun brother.

I do pay my dues to the IRS for the betterment of this country.

Not that I have any love for Obama (good lord his foreign and military policies are terrible), but you need to reread Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the US Constitution. Totally not the Presidency.

That the IRS is a gear of the Department of Treasury isn't Obama's fault either: blame the Revenue Act of 1862 and the laziness to not repeal it after the American Civil War. Hell... the entire United States Department of the Treasury should be answering to Congress IMHO, not the President. But that's the An Act to Establish the Treasury Department written waaaaaay back in 1789.

If Congress would stop being lazy for the last 220+ years and actually directly do the bureaucratic tasks it was assigned to do, rather than pawn it off to the President, maybe the government would work like it's supposed too.

Or maybe... you know... they just like having a scapegoat for election season and blame the President.

*rant mode off*

sure FI has the 'best gains' so to say... but i will reiterate...

it all depends on your ears. whats music to some is just a raspy fart can to others.

OP you need to spend an hour on youtube listening to the different exhausts... maybe find some guys in the spring with different kits on and listen to the sounds!

not in person the tubes of you.

but it wasn't a shot at FI by any means... it was just trying to highlight that one might like something and the another may hate it.

thats why i would rely on your ears to make the choice :tiphat:

Eh, if that $1,000 is cash money then no tax. OP, a nice aftermarket exhaust is waiting for you in the classified section

DavidZ370 12-10-2014 01:10 PM

Don't forget to get the "Powder coated" version for an extra 100 dollars if they have one.

dislimn 12-10-2014 01:49 PM

Came to talk about Obama, leaving satisfied

90 ST 12-10-2014 01:55 PM

I would go with the CAI, you already have a "better" then than base exhaust, but the intake is the regular one we all started with.

MJB 12-10-2014 01:57 PM

OP, I would save that 1k for a rainy day... like when your CSC goes out, lol

You already have Nismo exhaust. For $1000 or less, you can get a least these two........... High flow cats or test pipe and cold air intake.

How would you feel about buying the intake used? There's a post for one, Gen 3 Long pipes, probably get it for 300-350. Is that a good move to save that money? or is this something you want to buy new

I'm confused. Why would a used intake be a problem? Just clean and re-oil the filters and you're good to go.

DETROITBOY27 12-11-2014 09:45 AM

Look in the classifieds here, I got a used stillen exhaust 700 shipped, and a takada intake for 350 shipped. No shame in saving a couple bucks.

Oh a used one is just as effective as a new one...

...being that they don't produce a noticeable difference for the $300 + install hassle.

But that's just me. :driving:

Oh, the "CAI's don't produce power" **** again. I guess all the dyno sheets floating around here are just wrong.
