Hey Unknown_370 that is an interesting way of doing it im just curious, you mean to drop it into drive when you stop reving? does it matter that the revs are up or you wait until they go down?

JARblue 11-14-2014 03:43 PM

Yes... the idea is that giving it a bunch of idles revs makes it think that you wanna go fast (which you do). So when the revs drop and you put it in gear and goose it, it performs better than if the engine were just idling prior to goosing it.

kenchan 11-14-2014 04:06 PM

problem with the z's throttle lag is that if you idle rev multiple times you tend to miss the perfect engagement window since the throttle latency is so damn big. :D

that said, its easier to just rev and hold rpm then engage clutch on a MT or release brake from torque converter stall speed.

DONT REV AND DROP. the only purpose of revving is for the algorithm logic sensory program to get a sense you will be driving aggressively.

Oh. One thing... When you initially hit the gas, you instantaneously press to 25%, then when take off is in sequence, floor it n change gears accordingly.

My thoughts on Launching the 370z:
1) If you want to drag race, you got the wrong car.
2) At the track you will have a rolling start
3) Most Autocross tracks are designed so that the launch isn't important, and start timing about 20 feet in or after the first turn (otherwise AWD would have a huge advantage)
4) On the street, there is no reason for launching your car

That is arguable about drag racing.

Oh I know, and plenty of people to drag the Z. It's just my opinion ;)

falconfixer 11-15-2014 10:46 AM

Plenty more red light racers than those legally drag racing IMHO

In that case, neutral drops should be fine for them.

1. That depends on what you're racing against
2. True
3. True
4. True, but you can't blame people for wanting to have fun on a closed, back or country road. It's a sports car. People wanna do sporty shyt.

If your at the drag strip . Pull the brake fuse.
makes a big difference.
Just remember to put it back in when before you leave the track.

Under 2000, you're just creating excessive wheelspin. The launch is hard after you spun for a couple seconds. But there's a slight cut in power before the pop.

I keep VDC in first to control wheelspin on launch. Then release vdc in second so power doesn't cut while upshifting so aggressively. Vcd will cut power the second a bump throws off the balance of the Z. I can control that on the wheel without cutting power. Hence VDC off.

Beginner's question, how do you turn VDC on and off? Or am i miss-interpreting any terms here?

Lower dash left side of wheel. You can't miss it. Round button marked VDC and the unlit word "Off" under it till you hit VDC off..

What does this exactly do?

Pulling the brake light fuse allows you to stomp the brake and rev it in the AT. Otherwise, it'll just cut you off at 13-1500 rpm and eff up your launch.

Oooohhh.... That's why it cuts power on me.

Thank you for the info about this. I just recently figured out how to launch it without pulling the fuse with my best time of 13.35 quarter mile. What kind of improvements did you see at the drag strip with your times with the fuse out and where is the brake fuse located?

I actually never tried it. Z eliminator is the pro at the 'strip, hopefully he will chime in on that soon. I can imagine it will improve your times noticeably, at the cost of your transmission.

Zerocool 11-18-2014 08:17 AM

I've never launched it in fear that rear dif bushings would explode. I heard they absolutely suck and they're a bitch to swap.

Nah, tranny will be fine. I race every three months or so and run about 6 passes at a time when I go. An extra 1k of brake torque should help. Just enough to scrub the tires a bit.
