Here we go again with the comparisons and justifications.
If you bought a manual bc your concerned with image, you're stupid and insecure. If you have a 7at and feel the need to justify your purchase over a manual by constantly making comparisons to dct, 1/4 mile times, etc, you're equally as stupid and insecure. No one cares. Enjoy the car |

I mean.. I am kinda trolling a little lol. He should get what he wants. Ultimately it is his car. And I know the auto isn't "bad." In 2009 Car and Driver called the shifts "lightning quick." ...in 2009. It's 2014. They recently re-tested the Nismomatic and came up with a different conclusion this time. But in reality we are talking milliseconds here anyway. The Z is one of the purest sports cars on the market.. a focused two-seating purpose built performer. There isn't a four-four version, nor an AWD or FWD variant, or 4 different engine options.. it is what it is. Pure and awesome. And the manual with synchro-rev..the first manual transmission to ever have it..is far more advanced and far more fun than the auto. Period. That goes for the base Z and the Nismo. The ONLY time that the 7AT shines brighter than the 6MT is on the drag strip..where shift times really matter. Otherwise the manual is faster. Every time.
Sometimes when I show people my car and they ask if I have a stick I tell them no I got the auto just so I can see their face. Never once has a person been like "omg yeah! You went for the auto!"... No.. people's faces range from bewilderment to disgust as they struggle for something nice to say or a change of topic. Then I tell them I was joking. They laugh with me. I laugh with them. Told them I man.. I got a MANual. Yeah it's trivial but if one cares about that sort of parking lot banter it's also something to think about. Me personally though.. I'd get the manual even if it was a half second slower.. the complete control over the car is worth it to me. Idk when I'll ever want an auto in my sports car. Probably never.

What did you decide to go with anyways OP? You should give an update so this pointless thread will finally end. I read that too. They said it was a great transmission for 2009, but felt it was dated and shifts were a little slow compared to today's autos.

Wait. So the auto 370z is better? Is it true its faster? 1/4 mile times, 0-60 etc.? I always thought getting a sports car it was better to get the manual option.

And clearly people care. A lot. There wouldn't be a new thread every 15 minutes if no one did. Here's an idea: When someone posts a thread on "which should I get?", the default recommendation could be "Test drive both and choose the one that you prefer" (where have I heard that before?). Any follow-up response by the OP after "just test drive 'em" is almost certainly going be a plea for social approval... and then we're back to this whole thing. I'm pretty convinced this issue simply won't die until there just aren't any sports/sporty new cars equipped with three pedals, and then people will look back on this whole debate as quaint and or silly. On another note, tonight I watched the director's cut of Night Breed -- no CGI, all physical special effects. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the old school physical special effects -- even the cheesy ones -- over the modern computer generated ones. They feel visceral and real. Not so polished and plastic. They require real hands-on control and inventiveness and a genuine passion for the art of making special effects come to life. To me, CGI is a relatively cold, and artless process, where a computer interpolates data points from a few specific inputs. Should I just shut the hell up and be glad Gollum is not a guy in a rubber suit? Am i making a big stink out of something silly, glorifying something antiquated? Does it matter? Are cool movies with neat effects still happening or has the digital revolution ruined these personal expressions of a man and his vision, created with his own hands? Totally unrelated? Not so much to me. Same fukin' argument, different hat.

There's more to life than 0-60 and quarter mile times. If that's all you're going for you shouldn't be looking into a new Nismo at all. There are way cheaper cars that will be quicker in a straight line. A faster 0-60 doesn't equate to "better" car.

Admit that a MT hasn't been an essential and critical feature for a "true" sports car for some time now (and certainly not within the past few years for consumer sports cars) and we're done here, seeing eye to eye. Stick to your guns, and we're back to the "MT only" view is right and the "both are viable" is wrong. If you can't do that, we'll just agree to disagree, I guess... I'm about exhausted with all this

First, lets get this out of the way... No credibile car magazine has even tested a 2015 nismo with the 6 speed. We don't really know how quick it is compared to the auto. And they changed the gearing this year for the auto and the manual so we can't go off past year nismos either. On top of that, car and driver said they still preferred the manual after testing the auto.
And there are plenty of sports cars that still sell more manuals than autos. I actually believe the Z is one of them. So the manual IS essential for some sports cars and will continue to be so. Those cars which have been taken over by autos certainly haven't been by ones that debuted in 2009..unless they're dual clutch.. which this isn't. And finally, to reiterate, we're talking about 0-60 and quarter mile times only..since that's the only time this auto is supposedly faster..in which case the question has to be raised: why are you shopping a Nismo Z if that's all you care about? That's not side stepping, that's taking the next logical step. The OP needs to get the sand out, be a man, and get the MANual.

In short, we'll simply have to agree to disagree, and that's okay by me. However, hopefully you'll rethink your logic on the interpretation of what it means to use a MANual, otherwise you'll have to start seeing a physician about the inexplicable MENstrual cramps that will likely follow... Oh, and while we're at it, just an FYI that you may not know: the famous Testarossa has nothing to do with testes, like it sounds. It means "red head", a reference to the cam cover on the engine, and, allegedly, also a reference to wild, red headed women, not men. Go figure. And our car is the "Fairlady", named after the musical, which was popular at the time. A musical about a chick who has to learn to be more graceful and ladylike. Not very manly at all. Anyway, your line of reasoning has certainly stopped my counterargument in its tracks -- it's like any other faith based system; you can't debate it. I'm sure your grandkids will find all of these conversations about transmissions being more or less indicative of manhood very confusing as they operate their ultra fast electric cars. Well, speaking of manly or at least manual tasks, I need to go repair my busted washing machine today... hopefully this endeavor will help offset the emasculating shame of my girly 7AT. According to you, I probably have some sand in my underwear to wash out, so I'd better get to work...
