These are post 13 weights. Pre 12 is 6mt. 3,232lbs 7at. 3,269lbs I don't know the 12 weight but it's probably very very close to the 13. |

if you loved your old auto, why get the manual now, especially if you're not comfortable with it yet? That's a big investment under the assumption that you will get used to and like it. If you're going to go manual, get a cheap beater to DD to make sure you are good with it before getting the nismo.
|
So the manuals in the 370z are kinda finicky, tricky to get used to. All I've ever driven my whole life is manuals and this thing was honestly a pain in the *** to get used to for me. The engagement point is somewhat vague. So I'd say get the auto its faster as well. :)
|
Don't listen to them OP, don't turn to the dark side! Get the 6mt, I'm telling you after a good solid week behind the wheel you'll be fine. Hills may take a little more time to master.
|
I wouldn't get the nismo in auto. I like my 7at but getting the nismo in at would be a no-no for me.

This thing is kinda fun though :p http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...0f458279fa.jpg

plus with the rjm clutch adjustment (from what I hear) makes a huge difference.
|
RJM makes a huge difference.
In terms of the weight argument. The AT still gets better MPG and 0-60, and since that extra ~50lbs is low in the car and centered it won't hurt handling that much. I just go with MT because I'm a purist snob haha. Never driven an AT 370Z but I've heard good things! |

Off topic, but I wonder how well the new Nismo's are selling.

And for the interesting diversion .... Why can't they just put a nice dual clutch tranny in it eh? Would that be so hard? :stirthepot: |

i mean you could say they dont want to pull GT-R customers to the Z if they offered a DCT but i dont think that would be true since if you're able to have a GT-R i highly doubt a Z is a comparable choice based on it having a DCT as well lol now the eau rouge not having a DCT is done to not drawn GT-R customers based on having the same engine lol |

6mt nismo only gets 3.91s :tiphat: |
Not going to lie learning to drive a 6MT was somewhat annoying at first because of where I live. All stop and go traffic, and then the NJ turnpike at 6pm is ridiculous. But after a couple of months it really becomes second nature. At first I was regretting it but now I don't even think about it. I say get the 6mt. You'll pick up rather quickly as most do. They say once you own a MT you never go back.
|
**** it all buy a 6mt and never look back no regrets. Don't waste your months of learning to drive a stick. You did it for a reason, you wanted to be a better person.
|
I've got a solid red 2015 nismo tech manual.. be a man. Get a MANual
|
buy what you want... just make sure you will be happy with your choice because at the end of the day you are the one paying the bill and you will be the one living with the vehicle.
and instead of taking opinions from us for at vs mt, take some responsibility and pick the tranny that you want and live with it. or take a hit and resell it and get the other one (don't worry you'll only be throwing away the taxes, delivery, fee's etc etc etc and maybe 5-10% sticker value of depreciation) you have no one to blame but yourself for your choice. be a man do the right thing, grow a pair and live with your choices. or if you're a girl... uh... yea... disregard my previous statement |

wait....what were we talking about? :wtf2: |
This is turning into the "It's nawt a skirt, its a fookin' kilt" debate again...
Personally, in this debate, I'd side with the crazed gent holding the 5 foot claymore... he sounds pretty serious, whereas the other guy is overly concerned with who sees whose ankles. Anyway, dude, just test drive both, and base your decision on that. The whole "me make fire with flint and tinder like mighty hunter -- why you no want make fire like man too!?" bullshit is stupid on many, many levels. If you will feel like a big wuss in your 7AT Nismo (which, weirdly, no one at Nissan thought would embarrass the Japanese, as that was an option going back to '09 ...), and feeling that way will spoil your fun, then by all means get the 6MT and enjoy all the hearty back slaps, fist bumps and smug nods of approval that await all members of the 3-pedal faithful :tiphat: I mean, why else would you buy a car except for the admiration of strangers on the internet??? A final thought: If performance isn't the issue for folks (although it sure as hell would be if the 7AT were slower, I suspect...), but rather "feeling connected", and the OP apparently will not feel that way for a good while, then is this all about browbeating a stranger into mastering a new skill? If so, OP, I say, buy the 7AT so you can enjoy driving right away and invest the time in mastering a 2nd language -- much more useful skill, and if you stumble on a word, you won't hold up traffic. |

*NVM Jordo, looks like he wants to go 7AT now. Dude changes his mind on a daily. |
Get the CVT
|
Guys I could see if the 7 speed was a dual clutch. Then maybe I could see someone making the choice to get that. I still wouldn't. But regardless.. its just a regular slushbox.. nothing fancy. Get the stick and short shifting kit if you feel it necessary and call it day. Be a man. Get a MANual. Roadhouse.

Damn good... For an autotragic. True. But still not as fun. Plus with synchro rev boss I can downshift with ease and crush any auto in traffic. Got a MANual for my first 370.. got a MANual for my Nismo. Cuz I'm a MAN. Easy decision.

I think Kenchan's "practice on beater", advice was best. He can get the next car down the line in MT if so desired. It's not like the 7AT is a poor performer on the Z... Quote:
's -- including ours -- has full lock up from 2nd - 7th, and thus does not rely on fluid coupling beyond 1st). Quote:
"Manual" is derived from Latin for "hands", mang... :icon14: |
Here we go again with the comparisons and justifications.
If you bought a manual bc your concerned with image, you're stupid and insecure. If you have a 7at and feel the need to justify your purchase over a manual by constantly making comparisons to dct, 1/4 mile times, etc, you're equally as stupid and insecure. No one cares. Enjoy the car |
I mean.. I am kinda trolling a little lol. He should get what he wants. Ultimately it is his car. And I know the auto isn't "bad." In 2009 Car and Driver called the shifts "lightning quick." ...in 2009. It's 2014. They recently re-tested the Nismomatic and came up with a different conclusion this time. But in reality we are talking milliseconds here anyway. The Z is one of the purest sports cars on the market.. a focused two-seating purpose built performer. There isn't a four-four version, nor an AWD or FWD variant, or 4 different engine options.. it is what it is. Pure and awesome. And the manual with synchro-rev..the first manual transmission to ever have it..is far more advanced and far more fun than the auto. Period. That goes for the base Z and the Nismo. The ONLY time that the 7AT shines brighter than the 6MT is on the drag strip..where shift times really matter. Otherwise the manual is faster. Every time.
Sometimes when I show people my car and they ask if I have a stick I tell them no I got the auto just so I can see their face. Never once has a person been like "omg yeah! You went for the auto!"... No.. people's faces range from bewilderment to disgust as they struggle for something nice to say or a change of topic. Then I tell them I was joking. They laugh with me. I laugh with them. Told them I man.. I got a MANual. Yeah it's trivial but if one cares about that sort of parking lot banter it's also something to think about. Me personally though.. I'd get the manual even if it was a half second slower.. the complete control over the car is worth it to me. Idk when I'll ever want an auto in my sports car. Probably never. |
