The marketing on that car has teenagers/young adults believing its the best car under a million dollars. Most magazine articles, blogs, big name video reviews swing on the testicles (or lack there of) of this car like Tarzan. When was the last time you saw a Z commercial? The last time I saw one wasn't even a Z commercial. It was a guy stretching his Z into a Maxima. It has also had very minor "updates".

Very true. Scion as well as Subaru have strong marketing and large numbers of followers. I said it before, i think the BRZ/FRS is a good car but at the same time i think it is a gimmick, kind of a trend or fab. Sure a lot of car enthusiasts buy the FRS/BRZ and like it for the fun factor but at the same time a lot of youngsters also buy the car. I have a strong suspicion that many BRZ/FRS owners do not know much about the car they purchased, no i know that for a fact after going over and visiting their forum and speaking to actual owners.

BRZ/FRS owners seem out of touch with reality. They speak about their BRZ's and FRS's as the finest handling cars in the world. Others actually think that they have a fast car or by dropping a few hundred pounds that they will magically be running high 13 second 1/4s.

Honestly that was one turn off for me, i did not want to be associated with people that wear backwards baseball caps and have a vocabulary that consists of 'yo dawg' and 'that's hella tight'.

Cayman gts are the handling cars to beat. The fr-s/brz can even throw a rock close to the Cayman.

Not once have I seen a nismo 370z commercial or an official 370z commercial. There's tons of altima and maxima commercials.
Only Maxima commercial I recall is the Z stretch one, it has been pretty much overlooked by Nissan of recent like the Z. Its about the bread and butter Altima!

Why let teenagers bother you? When I see BRZs/FRS on the street with Hello-Kitty graphics, "Ryu shoryuken" Japanese words and stuff, with their big speed boat wings and wild body kits, I just chuckle. The import scene is passé. It's the rice crowd.

In 2009 I erroneously predicted that the 370 would fall into the "rice out when it's 4, 5 yrs. old because they'd be about 1/2 in price, and all the teenagers would buy them and put kanji graphics and wild wings." The bad economy has deterred that. I'm glad I was wrong.... The 370 crowd is the "we're moving up to Porsches, Vettes, Teslas, etc." We're not the boy-racer crowd.

Yo dawg my FRS is tight...tighter then the Cayman. It eats 370z's and Caymans on the track for breakfast. With the right driver and cold air intake the FRS can easily keep up with both cars.

Power slides dawg, don't you know my FRS can drift into corners? I can leave both cars in the dust, haven't you seen the reviews for the FRS or BRZ? Come on now dawg....once i get a turbo i will eat vetts all day too and probably smoke lambos too.

Me and my homies are goin' down to the Wendy'd parking lot, FRS's, BRZ's V-tec's....yea...what now haters?

If you want a 215 Hp car that's fun to drive get a Juke NISMO RS. Within an inch of the Z in track and wheelbase, and it really scoots through traffic. Only my Z is more fun.

So I just bought my 370z.
I cross-shopped the BRZ, S2000 and Cayman. I drove the BRZ about 4 times trying to make up my mind.

All cars have pluses and minues.
The BRZ is slow as ****. Slower than you think. It's rediculous how slow it is.
That said, I had every intention to supercharge it day 1.
Watch a youtube video of the Litchfield BRZ and it's f*cking sick.
I also wanted to track whatever car I bought. This is where I decided aginst the BRZ. If you dig into the forums, and read up on the track guys, the BRZ is a big piece of ****. The core problem is the engine suffers from an bad direct injection design which causes detination and causes the engine to gernade. MOST of the track guys I saw stopped racing it out of fear.
This can apparently be fixed with a good tune, but it seems like a bad issue that would cause undo worry. A 200hp $24,000 car is not worth that level of worry. If I wanted to worry about my POS car blowing up, I would have bought a Cayman. Also, to replace the injectors requires massive amount of labor.
And even supercharged, the BRZ isn't fast. A supercharged BRZ is slower than a S2000 or 370Z.

The BRZ handles good, it's lower to the ground and more gokart like. I dig it. It needs 240-280hp from the factory to be a good car.

Yes I've heard from a couple people and read the fa20 makes good power when boosted, but can't handle it for long. Cosworth is trying to work out a deal with Subaru to be a factory upgrade option. This would be covered under warranty as well with 3 packages to choose from. So there might be hope for a boosted factory brz.

Default looked at both

When shopping for my fifth Z car in 2012 I did look at the BRZ/FRS design. I thought it was a nice vehicle, but they didn't "pop" like the Z, so I continued with the Z line and now am on my sixth one. I like to watch people watch cars go by and enjoy doing it myself. A guy in my neighborhood owns an Audi R8 and when that sucker goes by I stop and stare and think - if I just had another $100,000 that would be my car. But what I have noticed when cruising in my Z is that a large number of folks just stop and stare at the car as it goes by. I also watch people as a BRZ/FRS goes by. They don't look in the same way since it seems it is more just another car on the road. I have always liked that there are not many Z cars on the road. While I live out in the remote state of New Mexico I have probably only seen a dozen or so Z cars in the last year. I like that. But I have seen literally hundreds of the BRZ/FRS line. To me the Z is something very special and unique and that is worth everything. trackster22

There is definitely a low amount of 370zs on the road compared to toyubaru twins. I see like 20 or more a day its ridiculous.

I live in the Portland area which is large and have only seen a handful of Z's since i started getting interested in the Z. So in about 6 months i remember counting 8 370z's and i suspect that i have seen the same couple of Z's more then once so the actual number is probably smaller.

Even before i knew too much about Z and before i was even interested i would always stare at my neighbors Z. I thought it was some kind of rare GTR Porsche thingy...

Haha I live up by Seattle and yeah I've seen like 10-15 on a consistent basis. I like not having a car that everyone else has. Same reason I bought a z31 300zx nobody has clean ones.

I looked at a few 370z in the Seattle area. It's not easy finding one in the right price range, color and mileage. Heck it's not easy finding any low mileage Z. Yes there are brand new ones but they are too much for my budget.
