Full time GT-R or part time 370Z?
Given the opportunity, you have the opportunity to purchase in one of the two following scenarios:
1) Buy any 370Z you want (even the new 2015 Nismo, or a beautifully used 40th Anniversary Edition, or a ragged out 2009 with a busted CSC and no oil cooler) to do whatever you want with (track duty, show car duty, weekend duty, heists/transporter duty) AND a DD/practical car of your choice with a minimum of four seats and under $25k in price. (examples - Juke Nismo, Altima, V6 Mustang Convertible, 10 year old Buick Lacrosse) 2) Buy a GT-R, and it must be your daily driver/kid hauler/grocery getter/boner generator. Curious as to what you guys think. |
Everyone's situation is different, so I doubt that the poll will really tell you much of anything... That said, I'd get the GTR (but then I don't have to worry about driving kids around town, and I have a truck available to haul large items).

Gtr

GTR all day. The only thing better than having a car with a turbo, is having a car with TWO turbos! :happydance:
|
GT-R no doubt.
More power. More seats. More trunk space. 4WD. |

gtr end of story.
wait... in terms of $ are we assuming gas consumption will (nvm scrap that thought) maintanence and etc will be par 370+dd vs gtr banging all day? |
GT-R and my 370 on the side for when i'm bored.
i win. close thread. :mic drop: |

i would hate to park a GTR at the stores. and if your kids are toddlers or babies, it will be a royal pita to get them buckled in on a rainy day with door open, switches and door panels exposed to rain. :ugh:
|
can we sue the money difference from the GT-R to boost the Z? I'd probably rather have a 500whp Z for fun (smaller, sexier looking, obviously not as fast without the AWD and other hi-tech stuff, but a lot of fun) and a nice practical hatch DD.
|
plus, id like to enjoy my hobby car AWAY from family and work... its like my only REAL personal space.

That is unsanitary sir! I don't know where that mic has been

Kids and GTR's go together like lamb and tuna fish

I don't know... Maybe. Can you tell me a little more about the mic?

I'm that case, no. I want nothing to do with it

Chose GTR as DD. No current mass production car would be classified as a garage queen in my books.
|
you guys are all obviously noobs!
the Z is also a family car. a family of 2. after you divorce the wife because she's no longer special like the z. also if you note there is the baby-hitch latch thingie in the trunk. so yes, the z is also baby friendly. /end story |
If you have to haul kids, just bite the bullet and get a sedan. Like the Charger SRT8 Hellcat... I couldn't imagine trying to wrestle kids into a four "seat" coupe.
|
I already DD the Z, so the GT-R would be an improvement in just about every way (except cost). If you're talking about a new Z ($30-40K) + new DD ($25K) vs a used GT-R ($65-70K), I would prefer the new cars. I'd take a new GT-R any day in that scenario, but while I could afford a new DD payment with my current Z payment, there's no way I could afford a new GT-R :(
lol at the ragged out 2009 Z with a busted CSC and no oil cooler example :rofl2: |

GT-R and Z as the DD |

oh wait, was i supposed to be nice? :ugh2:

I can't see having either of those cars as an only vehicle, unless maybe I lived in Florida or something. So definitely 370 + a cheap DD (oh wait, that's what I've got).
I may be in the minority here but I don't see the GTR as the be-all end-all of fast cars; I'd much prefer a twin turbo 370. IMO the GTR doesn't look anything like how a car that costs $100K+ should look.:shakes head: |
Z, the GTR as great as it performs is just doesn't do anything for me visually.

Bargain in my book. |
If I had the dinero for a GTR I'd have to look closely at several other super cars.
Interesting tidbit though. I did talk to the salesman about a GTR (not that I was in the market) & was informed that the Nissan dealer in my town (population 100,000+) wasn't qualified to sell them. To be qualified he said they must employ GTR trained mechanics and stock $200k in GTR spare parts. If that's true, car trouble on the road might be a huge PIA even if it's under warranty. |

I am enjoying the responses. Couple things I would like to add:
1) Mike is a cheater. He has THREE DDs and a Z racecar. 2) Nobody said you had to spend ALL $25k on a DD. You could spend $10k of that on a used Sentra and $15k on hookers or racecar parts. Life is good. 3) I'm not in the market for microphones. After a bit more digging, I saw that early GT-Rs employed a "snow" mode on the car. Would any of you who said "yes GT-R" drive it in the snow? Or a typhoon? Tough mudder competition? On a more sincere note, I'm leaning toward the whole 2015 Nismo and finding a way to import a Nismo Pulsar (because Nissan should make it here in the US to battle the WRX/Focus ST/upcoming MS3 trifecta). Turbo hatch for a daily, sick *** sports car for any other time I feel like driving. It's nothing against the GT-R. It's nothing against my driving or money or anything else. It's everything against EVERYONE ELSE in my measly town that would park their rusted out Ford Broncos on top of it at the grocery store, or the Dodge Ram 3500s rolling coal on me on the interstate. I have a feeling it would attract far too much attention. Any NISMO drivers in here? Do you get more attention than a high school twerking competition when you're just trying to make a beer run? |
Z and DD or a used 911TT. If you gave me a GTR, I'd sell it and buy something that is fast AND looks good.
|
As much as it seems you want a GTR you should go ahead and dive in. Live the experience. Then if it is not for you sell it and get something else that fits your lifestyle.
The other option of a '15 Nismo + DD. You already have a 370 it seems and possibly a DD of some sort already. If not you are a DD short. If you do already have a 370 then it is up to you whether you would want to eat the depreciation on trading up for the '15 Nismo. Looks are subjective. No power upgrade. I want the seats is all. |
I hate this question as I can not vote. I already had this choice when I bought the Z. The GTR was automatic and the Z was MT. The Z is my DD. I do not want another car when I can fit groceries into the lovely car I have.
|
Funny conversation. Personally, my buddy and I parked my Nismo Z next to a GTR and asked his wife to point at which one looked cooler and faster...she picked mine. Men get bones over GTRs...women love Nismo 370s..they have lines and class.
I DD an old 4 door ford truck and enjoy the heck out of my nismo. Plus, it feels like a new toy every time I get in it, rather than a daily driver. |
