Kdo2milger, I owned an 03 350z track model (sold a long time ago) and just recently took a test drive in the 09 370.
The biggest impression I came away with was that the 370 has a vastly superior ride quality than the older 350. I put 19 Volks on the 350 and it made me dizzy at times, it was so harsh. Also in the 370 it's much easier to spin the tires, the interiors much nicer, and it's a better looking car, but you guys already know that.

300shootter....exhaust are so freaking expensive for the 335, I'm looking for a used one.
You can get some cheap HP with the JB3 however.

Like someone else stated, get the BMW chipped and get a full coil-over suspension. I would also add an exhaust, but that's just me. After all that you may be looking at $4-$5k.

You also could go the route of just getting a used e46 M3($16k-$40k) and blow away the 335.

BTW, I love the 370 and am not trying to knock it, just posting the obvious options.

Just brought a Z just the road noise gotta get use to its a different feel but growin on me. Comin from a 335 puttin 389WHP I do miss it. But you said E46 M3 blow away a 335 itll never happen..

Traded in my 03 330Ci vert w/ sports package and 5speed manual for my 2010 Z and I wouldn't go back. Just sayin. the Z is for ME!

To the OP: I work as a BMW tech and have driven many many BMWs yet I still went and bought a 370z over the cars that I work on(and get a discount to purchase)

Go with what you feel is right, I honestly agree, the Z is a more engaging driving experience than the 335i, dont get me wrong the 335i is decent but doesnt carry the edge necessary to feel like a Z, for that youd need to get a M3, however at that price obviously youd be shopping an entirely different category of cars and probably be considering a GT-R.

I say you keep your Beamer and get a used Z too ;)

Rooskey 01-13-2011 01:18 AM

To the OP. I test drove both cars before I made my purchase. I see exactly how you feel about the BMW. It is a heavy car and it seems like you have to get it up to speed before your having fun. The ride is great and the features are nice. The price to keep the bmw up as it gets older will cost you as you know. If your looking for fun in an automobile without the status pro I would go with a Z. Its all going to come down to your man card (Keep your women happy with the beemer or have yourself a good time driving a Z). Consider that you have a back seat and trunk as well if you have little ones! Good Luck

I do.

OP- You have a wife to consider so you may be stuck. I put 50 miles on my buddies '08 335i. Nice car. Feels planted on the road and quiet. He is on his third fuel pump under warranty (and BMW is giving him grief about lemon laws*). I hope your car is more reliable. If not, as a working stiff, you may need a car not even discussed here. I love my Z and recommend it to some. In your case, with a nice sporty car, listen to the wife.

* because previous lease holder had one of the three pumps replaced.
