Quality concerns..
Hey guys,
My name is Jacob and I'm pretty new to the forum. Anyway, I recently visited my Nissan dealer and discussed ordering and packages with the new Z. I am slated to purchase my 09 Z in April. Not having paid yet however, I have a few concerns I wanted to address with you guys. I was planning on getting Black with orange interior and fully loaded. What I don't understand is the tacky little black window on the rear bumper. You pay close to $40 for something you worked years for.. not only that, it's probably one of the best cars you will ever own. I don't understand why Nissan cheaped out so hard and didn't replace that bumper. I mean it's supposed to be a premium sports car no? That little hole just makes the car look tacky and is another reason arrogant bimmer owners disrespect Japanese autos so much. So is there an alternative? Will Nissan be refreshing the model a couple years down the road addressing the problem? Will they just offer a more clean bumper you can purchase or will you have you go 2nd party? Also, I wanted to know if you could get the sport package without the spoiler.. as you guys can judge this is probably going to be my biggest investment in the next few years and therefore I care for every little aspect. I just find without the spoiler it looks more "classy". Like the spoiler just looks like a fin on any "ricer". I want a premium automobile as I am paying a premium price. Thanks a lot guys, I appeciate any information you can offer... |

Lol, are you serious that the little rear non working fog light concerns you that much? You really care what bmw owners are going to think after seeing that little red plastic thing?
If anything you should be concerned about the headllights. I think there are other things to worry about. If you really like the 370z something so minor shouldn't bother you. No I don't think nissan will replace the rear bumper next year, but who knows.

I actually love the new headlights and tailights. I actually like that big a$$ bumper. If you don't like the little fog light cover then you can always get the JDM fog light.
I also think you should get what you like and like it no matter what anyone thinks or says. If not, why would you get it? If the car's look really bothers you, then you can always wait for aftermarket body kits. That should solve your problem. As for the spoiler, it comes with the spork package but I just found out from WUKILLABEEZ78 that you can actually have the dealer order from the factoryYou can just tell them to leave the spoiler. I like it without the spoiler myself. Oh and one more thing. WHITE is better than BLACK. |

There's plenty of body kits that will be available. I'd recommend buying the JDM fog light. It will be cheaper, look pretty good (and purposeful), no painting required, and it will be easy to install yourself.
The base car is $29K. That's not bad. Sure, once you add all the extras to it, it makes it $40K, but I doubt Nissan takes that into account since they're options, and not something standard. I don't think they cheaped out, honestly. True, it doesn't look good that they just covered it up, but at the same time, the cost for tooling a new bumper mold and specializing the U.S. market would have jacked the price of the car up.

im stoked for life about the spoiler deal, the led back light looks way better without the spoiler over it too. and as for the fog light cover, i wonder if you could just have it reworked at a local body shop like just put some steel over it and then sand/buff it in.

As much as I love the 370Z, it's not a "premium automobile" nor does it have a "premium price". It's an entry level sports car at a reasonable price.
It also sounds like you want to buy the Z to impress other people. Let me tell you, ignorant BMW guys will bash the Z regardless if it has the rear fog light or not because "It's just a Nissan". If you care about what other people think, then buy yourself a Porsche. Buy the Z for yourself and enjoy it for what it is. Don't buy it to impress other people. My

^^^ Wow... Well said. I couldn't have said it better myself. (1+rep!)
It's true... I used to work for a Porsche dismantler and some of the guys that'd come in for the worlds cheapest Porsche parts would come in wearing the Porsche hats, jackets, glasses, shoes, etc and they'd have their "trophy" wife by their side, act like total hot sh!t cause they own a Porsche and then b!tch if they couldn't get us to drop the prices anymore! LOL (Although some of the guys that came in for parts were really cool) But it's true, you buy a Porsche for status. You buy a Z for the value (and because you can't afford a Porsche )

thanks a lot boys.. good to hear about the "deletion of square box" haha. and as for the Z being a budget sports car i think that's totally bogus.. not only does the Z cost up to 5 times what it does us in America in other countries, but it's a good car. For example, my bro is gonna end up paying up to 60 for his Z with everying included cuz he lives in canada. And as for porsche, not all of us can afford one. This is why I asked bout mods for my Z so i can have the car of my dreams and have it look the way i want
Z >cayman/boxster S>> cayman/boxter normal 911 > Z but not all of us have $100 grand |

LOL!
Well, it's only 911 > Z for a short while. You take a $40K Z and add another $10-15K in mods and you get: Z > Carrera GT! ... It's just a matter of time!

From what I've read, you have not seen the car in person. Everything you are judging from pictures and wet dreams you need to experience in real life. The lights look amazing, the curves look amazing and the little butt hole is just dandy. I'm not gonna complain. See it in person first and then post a thread. Honestly if you a Z guy, you won't complain.

Well honestly your getting the black Z. The filler piece is black. I doubt you'll really notice it much. Im sure that small cover is easy to R-I and you could have it refinished. And color match with black is easy. I wouldnt even worry about it. It would probably only take a shop a few hours at most if they have a bake booth. Take the cover out yourself. Take it to a shop have them spray it. If you remove it yourself you could probably have it done for under $100. Simple
