Quality concerns..

Hey guys,

My name is Jacob and I'm pretty new to the forum. Anyway, I recently visited my Nissan dealer and discussed ordering and packages with the new Z. I am slated to purchase my 09 Z in April. Not having paid yet however, I have a few concerns I wanted to address with you guys. I was planning on getting Black with orange interior and fully loaded. What I don't understand is the tacky little black window on the rear bumper. You pay close to $40 for something you worked years for.. not only that, it's probably one of the best cars you will ever own. I don't understand why Nissan cheaped out so hard and didn't replace that bumper. I mean it's supposed to be a premium sports car no? That little hole just makes the car look tacky and is another reason arrogant bimmer owners disrespect Japanese autos so much. So is there an alternative? Will Nissan be refreshing the model a couple years down the road addressing the problem? Will they just offer a more clean bumper you can purchase or will you have you go 2nd party? Also, I wanted to know if you could get the sport package without the spoiler.. as you guys can judge this is probably going to be my biggest investment in the next few years and therefore I care for every little aspect. I just find without the spoiler it looks more "classy". Like the spoiler just looks like a fin on any "ricer". I want a premium automobile as I am paying a premium price. Thanks a lot guys, I appeciate any information you can offer...

azn370z 12-30-2008 01:59 AM

Lol, are you serious that the little rear non working fog light concerns you that much? You really care what bmw owners are going to think after seeing that little red plastic thing?

If anything you should be concerned about the headllights. I think there are other things to worry about. If you really like the 370z something so minor shouldn't bother you. No I don't think nissan will replace the rear bumper next year, but who knows.

TacoZ 12-30-2008 02:03 AM

I actually love the new headlights and tailights. I actually like that big a$$ bumper. If you don't like the little fog light cover then you can always get the JDM fog light.

I also think you should get what you like and like it no matter what anyone thinks or says. If not, why would you get it?

If the car's look really bothers you, then you can always wait for aftermarket body kits. That should solve your problem.

As for the spoiler, it comes with the spork package but I just found out from WUKILLABEEZ78 that you can actually have the dealer order from the factoryYou can just tell them to leave the spoiler. I like it without the spoiler myself.

Oh and one more thing. WHITE is better than BLACK.

Crash 12-30-2008 02:11 AM

There's plenty of body kits that will be available. I'd recommend buying the JDM fog light. It will be cheaper, look pretty good (and purposeful), no painting required, and it will be easy to install yourself.

The base car is $29K. That's not bad. Sure, once you add all the extras to it, it makes it $40K, but I doubt Nissan takes that into account since they're options, and not something standard. I don't think they cheaped out, honestly. True, it doesn't look good that they just covered it up, but at the same time, the cost for tooling a new bumper mold and specializing the U.S. market would have jacked the price of the car up.

bossman 12-30-2008 02:17 AM

im stoked for life about the spoiler deal, the led back light looks way better without the spoiler over it too. and as for the fog light cover, i wonder if you could just have it reworked at a local body shop like just put some steel over it and then sand/buff it in.

Crash 12-30-2008 02:19 AM

^^^ Well, I won't get into that right now and not in this thread. But thanks for the props.

xDIEGOx 12-30-2008 02:27 AM

As much as I love the 370Z, it's not a "premium automobile" nor does it have a "premium price". It's an entry level sports car at a reasonable price.

It also sounds like you want to buy the Z to impress other people. Let me tell you, ignorant BMW guys will bash the Z regardless if it has the rear fog light or not because "It's just a Nissan". If you care about what other people think, then buy yourself a Porsche.

Buy the Z for yourself and enjoy it for what it is. Don't buy it to impress other people.

Crash 12-30-2008 02:32 AM

^^^ Wow... Well said. I couldn't have said it better myself. (1+rep!)

It's true... I used to work for a Porsche dismantler and some of the guys that'd come in for the worlds cheapest Porsche parts would come in wearing the Porsche hats, jackets, glasses, shoes, etc and they'd have their "trophy" wife by their side, act like total hot sh!t cause they own a Porsche and then b!tch if they couldn't get us to drop the prices anymore! LOL (Although some of the guys that came in for parts were really cool)

But it's true, you buy a Porsche for status. You buy a Z for the value (and because you can't afford a Porsche :D)

I am pretty sure there will be aftermarket bumpers or mods to delete that square box. About your question about model refreshing, we do not have any clue because the first year model isn't even out yet!!! Spoiler or non spoiler -- that's totally your own opinion. We can't decide for you. Click on "Nissan 370Z picture" on the top (below forum banner) and decide for yourself.

bossman 12-30-2008 02:52 AM

thanks a lot boys.. good to hear about the "deletion of square box" haha. and as for the Z being a budget sports car i think that's totally bogus.. not only does the Z cost up to 5 times what it does us in America in other countries, but it's a good car. For example, my bro is gonna end up paying up to 60 for his Z with everying included cuz he lives in canada. And as for porsche, not all of us can afford one. This is why I asked bout mods for my Z so i can have the car of my dreams and have it look the way i want :)

Z >cayman/boxster S>> cayman/boxter normal

911 > Z but not all of us have $100 grand

LOL!

Well, it's only 911 > Z for a short while. You take a $40K Z and add another $10-15K in mods and you get: Z > Carrera GT!

... It's just a matter of time! :)

bigdog1250 12-30-2008 03:48 AM

From what I've read, you have not seen the car in person. Everything you are judging from pictures and wet dreams you need to experience in real life. The lights look amazing, the curves look amazing and the little butt hole is just dandy. I'm not gonna complain. See it in person first and then post a thread. Honestly if you a Z guy, you won't complain.

Exactly! I didn't like the headlights and shape when I first saw pictures but decided to hold judgement until I saw it in person. I saw it at the LA Auto show and the car is amazing in person. I immediately knew that it was time for a new car.

fillyv 12-30-2008 09:30 AM

Well honestly your getting the black Z. The filler piece is black. I doubt you'll really notice it much. Im sure that small cover is easy to R-I and you could have it refinished. And color match with black is easy. I wouldnt even worry about it. It would probably only take a shop a few hours at most if they have a bake booth. Take the cover out yourself. Take it to a shop have them spray it. If you remove it yourself you could probably have it done for under $100. Simple

Alexus 12-30-2008 10:24 AM

Can someone show me a picture of what he's talking about because, honestly, I don't get it?

Mythos219 12-30-2008 11:04 AM

I don't get it. If you're getting the car in black why are you worried about the black covering? Also, why are you concerned with BMW owners?

Crash 12-30-2008 12:24 PM

Anyone know how much the JDM fog light is going to cost?

Nope, but I do know that other fog light sets they sell (for the front normally) sell for around $130, with all the wiring and whatnot.

BanningZ 12-30-2008 03:03 PM

What I do find funny about the issue concerning the JDM fog light, is for the past few years, these have become really popular among the tuner community. We are being offered a stock option, that people pay money for, only to have an ugly red light hanging below their oem bumper, while we have a spot meant for it.

I'm happy about the available spot for the Fog light.

People be nice to this guy though. There is no reason to berate the guy because he has an aesthetics concern.
I think its a legitimate issue for looks, but I do agree he should wait and see it in person before you buy. :D

dutty370Z 12-30-2008 05:50 PM

The thing isn't that bad to me and it definately isnt a deal breaker. The wide fenders look like a hott puerto-rican chicks big ol booty cheeks, and the fog light is just the butt-hole. i love it!

LOL @ bmw guys bashing.
It's a shame to see nice cars being driven by the spoiled ones...
I'm pretty sure that the 370z will shut some mouths.

Alexus 12-31-2008 10:53 AM

I'll let you know that an automobile does not need to have a "premium price" or be a "premium vehicle" to compete head-and-heel with high-end sports cars. Some Porsches have a price-tag twice that of the 370Z and are equal, slightly better or inferior performance-wise.

The 370Z is an extremely nice car, period. BMW fanboys will be ******** bricks when I tear them apart wholesale on the highway. The Altima 3.5SE coupe is an entry-level sports car... the 370Z is not. If you love a car just for its badge then you're going to be paying a premium price, but not necessarily for what I'd call a premium automobile.

frost 12-31-2008 11:06 AM

^^

The Z seems a little pricey to be considered "entry level," when there are sports cars such as the miata, solstice, and genesis. Those seem a little more entry level to me.

Alexus 12-31-2008 11:13 AM

^^
I generally categorize sports car with less than 300 hp as being entry-level.

WORD
Oh ****... That reminds me!
The other day there was a Hyundia Genesis parked infront of my house!
I don't know how this dude got his hands on one but man it's a nice ride.
I'll post pics once I get home!

Alexus 12-31-2008 11:25 AM

The Solstice GXP's 0-60mph time of 5.1 is still very respectable.

A lot of people here crap on the genesis for being a Hyundai, and then those same people get pissed off when the bimmer/porche boys do the same thing to them for driving a nissan. That being said, I refuse to knock the genesis for brand; it seems to be a great deal for the money and looks pretty slick.

I'll wait for crash to chime in about the high quality of the solstice. :rofl2:

Crash 12-31-2008 03:15 PM

LOL! Quality wasn't even a thought when the Solstice was made... GM's thoughts were (listed from highest priority to lowest):

"Make it with cheap parts"
"Make it with cheap parts"
"See if we can make it with CHEAPER parts"
"Make it with cheap parts"
"Throw as little in to the base as possible"
"HYPE the GXP"
"Sell the GXP late so that people that bought the NA would sell their and buy the GXP"
"Make it with cheap parts"
"Sell it for as much as we can get for it"

You forgot the most important one:

MAKE IT WITH CHEAP PARTS!

Crash 12-31-2008 03:19 PM

As for the Solstice's 0-60, I beat Road and Tracks times twice. My dad didn't know how to drive the car fast, so I showed him at the track. My times were very impressive compared to GM's stated times. I pulled better 1/4 times than GM by nearly a second! And my 0-60 was close to that of the LS1 Trans Ams. However, once I got it into 3rd gear, the car pretty much fell on it's face. But it really isn't bad for getting up to speed. I raced a few Mustangs with it and put 6 cars on the 2001 GT before even getting it into 3rd gear. (Got some video of that too. ;))

bossman 12-31-2008 05:53 PM

yeah thanks for the help guys, I still think the Z is a high end car (easily better than 80% of the cars on the road not to mention it's nissan's 2nd best car and represents them in the performance world) that being said, they should have not added that butt-hole, it's huge and ugly.. also it's almost unchangeable unless you add a body kit which will complete change the look of the Z and that's just stupid.. the Z is too beautiful

Crash 12-31-2008 08:32 PM

LOL! Well, it's hard to imagine a cute and small butt hole. At least if they did something the did it well right? Nissan: The over achievers!

Ours isn't equipped to turn on like the JDM version.

Its a Eurp/Jap spec thing for safety reasons.

krnboii704 12-31-2008 10:22 PM

Going along with what other people said,
I saw a white one close up today.. and it doesn't look that bad actually.

If you get a black, it shouldn't be that noticeable
