When do you shift up on normal daily driving? 3k?

I'm guessing MT and AT owners will be shifting at different points because of the extra gears in the 7at?
why would you let off?

one of the main benefits of a 7AT is being able to do no lift shifts lol

daily driving shifts depend on what i'm doing. just rolling through traffic leave it in 1, 2, or 3 pending gap in traffic. rolling out of red lights i'll just shift low around 3500 area since i blieve its almost 4k rpms to get it to go into 4th.

or if i need to be somewhere i'll shift around 7200-8000k

Paddles that rotate with the wheel are horrible. Shifting in a turn is very easy the paddles are very large.

I thought you weren't supposed to be shifting in a turn anyway? Downshift under braking, not in the turn.

I get aggressive on this one intersection when Im behind other cars waiting for the light to turn green and go though the sweeping right. I usually get on it pretty good and go to 2nd halfway through the turn grabbing the open free lane. Im pretty much hauling *** by the time I complete it.

How does anything you just said address the fact that shifting in a turn upsets the car and you should do it before or after the turn? I thought you had track experience?

Exactly, especially if it's something you know you're going to have to do. If it's a random thing I could understand but...

That said, I would hope he's not anywhere near the traction limit on the streets when performing this maneuver.

LOL, on a circuit, of course, torque steer, balance, apex etc, etc. This is from a stop, immediately going into a right turn, getting on the throttle to have the open lane. What choice does one have? Turning right at 31 mph while you bounce off the limiter?

Edit: Come to think of it, when I had the 370, I did NOT upshift through this turn, it was a manual and I generally held 2nd cuz it revs higher than my Genesis.

i like this thread because i get to battle the manual fanboys

and also i get to see the amount of people who just dont know how to drive the car well even with an automatic transmission.

makes me feel like a professional race driver when reading some of these statements.

Rough shifting in manual is all user error. From my own experience I had the hardest time shifting under 3k for awhile. I had to rev to 4-5.5k in first to get a smooth shift. Now I can shift under 2k if I want to 'save' some gas for the spirited moments and it's smooth. Then again there are sweet spots too. Or I could be talking up my arse.

The car hit the rev limiter three times until I realized what I was doing ZOMG! Meaning it cut power three times as it bounced the tach needle. I duly then upshifted and finished my passing moneaver.
i've bounced the tach once on a slow redline (70%throttle or so)... never again. never again...

I thought so too... something about putting a dynamic strain on the drive shaft and tranny... although I do shift while turning if I wind out first a bit much...

Lol.. shift in a turn??? HAIL THE DK You must drift every time you take a corner,

Paddles cover in the middle of 1/2 oclock to and 4/5 oclock. There's a lot of room 4 play You just get used having one of your hands at 9 and three. I really don't see the big deal.

Lastly I don't recommend shifting in the axis of a turn unless your goal is to either slide or cut power, depending which way you shift

but the power does drop off a bit after 7400rpm per the dyno sheets.
