I am only 5ft and have no problems locating the paddles.

Quick question about the paddle shifter.
Some say to just shift up while accelerating on the paddle shifter, and some say to release the accelerator pedal and shift up with the paddle shifter before accelerating again. (similar to maunal) Are both ways acceptable? Also, I realized that the car shifts down by itself when you slow down...found out the hard way a few weeks ago -_-

how long have you had the car now? :shakes head:

the car will downshift for you so it doesn't stall.

the car will not shift up for you....so don't blow your engine.

you can lift off and shift but WHY would you do that? it's part of the advantage of the AT. no lift shifts the ecu sorts it out so you never have to get off of the loud pedal and keep better RPM ranges when the car shifts.

rev limiter

kenchan 04-15-2015 11:19 AM

the only way you can blow up a AT engine is by poor fi install..?

MT you can do a 6th to 2nd at 75mph+ and blow it up mechanically. :rofl2:

why do you gotta ruin it lol

just wanted to scare people. dammit kenchan you ruin everything :shakes head:

I mean if someone tunes their car, raises the rev limiter past the point of 8k rpm, and the oil pump gives, then the engine will go boom....so technically it's possible :stirthepot:

I've had the car for a little under a year, but I don't drive it that much.
I know that I have to shift up haha
In my BMW, I had to downshift on the Manual mode when I would slow down.
I've never had a paddle shifter so thats why I was asking and wanting to know.

paddles work the same as the shifter.

I actually use the shifter itself when driving normal DD stuff and when going fast, drag strip, track, back roads, anytime when 2 hands on the wheel seems like a good idea I use the paddles.

Hey, so if youre in sport mode, going for gold, the AT will NOT upshift at WOT at redline? It bounces? Really?

No it will let you bounce off the rev limiter until you shift up.

It will down shift when forced to keep from stalling but at very low RPMs. On a track you must do it manually to attack corners or you will be in the wrong gear almost every turn.

kenchan 04-15-2015 01:02 PM

yah, that's how it should be. bounce off rev limiter.

imagine drifting and your AT keeps shifting up... lol end up in a ditch.

you see that video recently on the 370 FB site of the AT drifting on public roads? aside from it being on public roads....the dude just flicks out the rear end and slides it with ease in the AT.

Huh....I can hold mine at redline, but if I keep it planted it will upshift.

probably due to the fact it's a different car.

I mean that would be my first guess.....

kenchan 04-15-2015 01:11 PM

hey, why bother getting RWD if you dont slide the rear from time to time. :D

another reason why VDC is stupid.

kenchan 04-15-2015 01:13 PM

hey why bother getting FWD if you dont slide the front into a pole from time to time. :D

Yes. One of the best features! And one of the reasons i chose the z over a genesis and Is350 .

Also don't let off the gas when you up shift. We have a "no lift shift" :P haha

Now Im going to pay attention on the way home, you have me second guessing. My Z was a 6 speed but I never really thought about "track" qualities for this car. Interesting. Thanks!!!

I have a 2014 3.8 Genesis Grand Touring, 8 Speed auto. I THINK it does in sport mode. Like I said, now Im second guessing myself.

Firebase99 04-15-2015 01:17 PM

I have a colleague with IS350 FSPORT, Ill ask.

I have a tune that will only do 60mph and only 4000 rpm (my son took the car to prom) and even in auto mode it will bounce of the rev limiter hard if you floor it because the rpms are not high enough. In the first couple gears it almost violent when it hits it.

well the older (like last gen ones, 2012 etc) one did...not only that it wont shift when you click the paddles. say if i were 1-2k below redline and shifted to cruise the vehicle, it'd hold the gear thinking you wanted to redline it.

it was honestly useless.

not sure if the brand new ones are any different but i doubt it.

the genny can be. newer ones come with 348HP in the V6. little bit skinnier tire set-up but the power and RWD is there.

by friend has a 2009 3.8 track edition genny and wont race me lol he said it's because he knows the result is not in his favor :driving:

Firebase99 04-15-2015 01:20 PM

No, he says his FSPORT does it automatically in sport mode too.

No, the pre '13 are crap. Z is still faster than the new ones like mine. I was willing to give up a few ticks for the tech and pseudo luxury for an amazing price as a DD in this brutal south Florida traffic.

Yea...the tires, they suck. If I had ANY grip off the line this would take, at least half a second off the 1/4 time, cant wait to throw these out soon.
