2009 Nissan 370Z: If It's Too Loud, You're Too Young

Our 2009 Nissan 370Z gets passed over on the sign out sheet much more often than you'd think. It's frankly hard to fathom until you start listening to the younger editors on staff.

"It's too loud," they say. "There's lots of road noise. I can hardly hear my iPod."

Cry me a freakin' river.

a) This is a sports car. b) Do you not remember the noisiness that was the 240Z, the original RX7 or the Porsche 944 S2 Turbo? Of course you don't.

You've obviously had it too soft growing up in car seats in the back of mommy's Camry.

Besides, this car is plenty quiet compared to sports cars of old, and it hauls more ***, stops with much more authority and steers with much more precision than it's ancestors. As a bonus, it also has SyncroRev Match (to either help you learn to heel-and-toe properly or rid yourself of the need to learn) and, of course, a very good iPod connection.

You want more quiet? Fine. We'll simply add some more mass dampers and more sound-deadening materials. Want less road noise? Fine. We'll fit skinnier tires with softer sidewalls and a quiet tread pattern. And let's soften those pesky suspension bushings while we're at it.

So what if it gains weight and loses agility? Who cares if the steering goes all wonky and grip levels decrease? At least you'll be able to hear the Lady GaGa and Kanye West tracks from your favorites list.

Look, do you want a sports car or not? Be honest. If you don't, fine. Look elsewhere. Pick something with four doors and a backseat.

But let's not put the Nissan engineers and product planners on high alert to dumb down the 2009 Nissan 370Z. Some of us like it just the way it is.

Totally agree. Todays younger generation generally speaking are a bunch of whining delicate little petals that back off as soon as something gets too hard. I see it everyday! Get this an 18 year old that I know well had planned to go out a few days ago but the it was a little windy and looked as it may rain so he decided to stay indooorsall day. So sad!

Come on now guys, go easy on the younger generation. It's not our fault we didn't have to walk 10 miles uphill both ways in the snow to school every morning. Besides, not all of us are like that, your generation has it's whiners too, afterall it was you old fogeys who invented the camry and corolla.

-William

Edit: isn't the guy who designed the 370 in his early 20s?

I don't get some people. There is a G37 for all those concerned with "road noise". The 370 is supposed to be a sports car so I don't know where the confusion is.

I'm glad this guy stepped up and called them out.

Oh and I'm a young one that's screaming bring the road noise and stiffer ride on baby!

I said it before, I will say it again:

If it's too noisy for you, take out your tampons and shove them in your ears!

Dan forgot to add "So eat it Bitch" at the end of the article, he thought it would offend the youngsters.

Not the case with me, and or other individuals, however I cant speak for anyone else, I almost think the "noise" is music in its own, listening to the engine as it revs across the RPM band... the sound is amazing, and sometimes I know (even in my honda) I love hearing it hit vtec and the numerous times I've tried a 350z or 370z I keep the radio off

Well, I could do without the whole "angry old man" rant part, but I think the writer was doing that mainly for humor.

I think there's just a lot of people who want their horses to be tame and docile beasts. And then there's others who prefer a more "spirited" mount.

I guess I like my cars like I like my women!

Talking

I'm lovin this thread...
My 1st japanese tuned import 93 mazda rx7.
Loud as hell! Bumpy, azz breakin ride! Fast as lightning.
Cramped interior.
Guzzled oil like a fat 10year old drinks kool aid.
Engine harshness like a mutha.
N I miss that car more than my G35 n any other car I ever owned.
It was all those things that people call bad that made me want the Z so bad!
Can anyone say nostalgia? Lol my first car was a buick grand national.
Great car to start off with when u r racing on a drag strip.
When I craved more. I went japanese.
When I say more I mean handling, response, feeling at one with your car.
I never bought a bmw cuz all the drug dealers in my neighborhood were wearing em out.
So I opted for the rx7 cuz it reminded me of a ferrari yet mysteriously it wasn't that popular back then.
Now the Z reminds me of a porsche. There were many cars I owned in between the rx7 n g35coupe. Sometimes I lose track on which car I got n in what order. That's cuz no car left an impression like my rx7 and g35. After all my test drives of the Z. I know that owning this car is gonna be that "lucky to have this much fun more than twice in your life car!"

Let me say I'm 36. I dunno if that's old or not. I look 20. I get carded for cigarettes. Lol
N sometimes I act I'm in my 20's than mid 30's. So I can be a lil immature in certain circles. Which can be a bad thing. Lol. Oh well luv me or leave me alone I guess... right?
But the one thing I'm glad I never lost was my sense of fun!
I been through a lot of stuff so I make alooot of hard decisions. So I guess that's where my occasional regression comes from. A form of release. Point is... (sorry it took so long)
I hope for as long as I live... I won't crave a lexus or acura or snooty cars...
Give me Z's , supra's, mitsu's? rx's. N new to the game hyundai's till the death!

DIE HARD ASIAN SPORTS CAR ENTHUSIAST!
LONG LIVE THE VQ, 370Z WILL BE MY 3RD VQ
