Default Key Stolen

Hello Z Owners,

My Key was stolen yesterday afternoon from a Gym locker which had a lock on it. I already filed a police report since my key is the main concern, but I have a couple of questions.

1. How much is a new key fob and programming?

2. can I buy a used one and re-program for my car?

3. Would insurance cover they key and reprogram the second key?

4. What happens to the old key once they reprogram the new key?

We had two keys one that my wife carries and mine but now that mine is stolen we are going to have to get another one. I want to make sure that the stolen key can be un-programmed for my car at a dealer. (I know I will be taking my Vaseline)

Sorry to hear, man. GL with everything

1. Only the dealer can do programming, and it's pretty expensive ($300-400 IIRC).

2. Yup. Should save you some $$$. And if you had a 2009 fob, you can upgrade to one with a Z logo instead of the Nissan logo.

3. You should probably call your insurance company. My guess would be no, but you never know until you ask.

4. I dunno. Seems like the physical key would still work in the door regardless of programming. But I guess they wouldn't be able to start the car if it were reprogrammed.

Get one off of ebay and go to the dealer to program, should be under a hundred per key for programing.

I have a 2009 370z key that I never gave to the dealer when I traded in my 09 for 2012 would that one be okay to be reprogrammed on my 2012.

Should be fine. I should have clarified that the $300-400 number is for a new key fob and programming. As mentioned, you can get just the programming done cheaper.

cant remember but do our fobs come with those tags on the spare fob with a code?
if so, as long as you have that, your dealer shouldnt have an issue getting you a new one programmed.

If you have a Bennett Auto Supply by you, you can try and see if they reprogram Z keys. I send them my customers keys for reprogramming and its a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Damn I wish I would have looked around before I bought one from the dealership. I just paid 300$ for a new one like 5 weeks ago. Bummer

I would encourage you to make sure besides the replacement the fob's to having the door lock replaced also.

No sense for whom stole it to still have access to get in.

If you had a trustworthy local member with some mechanical skill you guys could swap door handles complete with locks along with keys. It's not that hard to do.

I would trust another Z brother as long as he doesn't know where I live

i keep a new deadbolt lock at home at all times so that if my wife or i lose a key we can immediately swap the lock to the house.

Surprise surprise,

I went to the Gym with my brother as usual and I decided to open up all of the lockers that did not have a lock. Toward the end of the lockers I opened one up and my bag was in there.

I am missing some personal stuff but my Z and Jeep key were there.
