Default Increasing the range of the fob.......

With my Subaru Baja, if you hold the remote under your chin you get increased range for operating the remote. Havn't tried it yet with the Z , but theoretically with you acting as an antenna, it should work for the Z fob also.

The only thing that worries me about our key is the RFID chip. It is extremely easy for someone with the right equipment to pick up the signal and replicate it into a usable key.

I don't know how the key works but its likely a rolling code with x bits of encryption so its unlikely that it could be captured and used as any sort of viable information..... that technology has been around for well over 10 years on car alarms...

The technology is already being used to steal information from peoples passports and credit cards..So it's a completely viable situation.

I know about the technology for capture. What I'm saying is that you can capture whatever encrypted data you want if you have no way of unecrypting it its useless. I assuming that ours uses one of the rolling encryptions - do you have information about how ours works you can pass on to me that I can look at?

No, I don't have any information. It's all in theory I suppose.

The thing about the RFID tags and hacking them is that many of the Credit Card systems and others do not have proper encryption on them when transferring data between the card and the tellers system.

I tried this for the first time yesterday and was amazed at the result. The fob worked from about 150 yards away when I put it under my chin. I was stunned.

I did have a line of sight to the car as I was on an upper floor at work looking over the parking lot. No way my fob would work from that far without the chin trick.

This will come in handy on hot days to get the windows rolled down and the interior cooling for a few minutes while I make the hike out to my car.

The i-key was meant to stay in ones pocket or purse. IMO, it just makes more sense to push the button on the door since you already have to put your hand on the handle to open it.

Also keep in mind the more often the i-key buttons are used, the faster the battery inside runs down.

quick question...i noticed this today and i can't figure it out reading the owner's manual.

my car doesnt seem to recognize either one of my intelligent keys without the keys
in the key port.

before i could just sit in the car with the key in my pocket, i hit ENGINE START
and drove off.

this morning i sat in my car as usual, hit the ENGINE START and the LCD says
"NO KEY". so i inserted my key into the port and drove off.

while i was inside the car during my drive, i shut off the car, pulled my key from
the port and hit ENGINE START and it started without the key in the port.

this afternoon it's back to NO KEY unless i have they key in the port.

any tricks to get it back to not having to have to put the key in the port?
