The intent of the thread is to recognize the function of your computer at the extreme point and to realize the optimum distance of your personal Z. Not that it says 18 mpg which varies. Don't read between the lines. there are a lot of people who shouldn't post before they think. BE nice is it that hard.

Facts I do not care to know; might be depressing. I stopped looking at my avg. mpg a long time ago. I just count the dots. 4 dots means find a gas station.

I've gotten 520 miles on a tank before driving across West Texas. And I only filled up 18.8 gallons that time.

Normally I get around 300-350 miles on mostly city driving tanks, and around 400 miles on mostly highway driving tanks. It is rare that I fill up with less than 17 gallons. The mileage remaining indicator usually comes on saying ~50 miles left. Once it reaches "---", I can usually get another 50-75 miles without issue. The thing you have to realize is the miles remaining is based on recent driving habits. If you've been driving easy (say ~20 mpg avg) and then start gunning it everywhere once the 50 miles remaining warning comes on, then you probably won't even make it 25 miles before it starts flashing "---".

After 60K miles, I can pretty much drive the car within a 1/2 gallon of completely empty based on my mileage counter and knowing how hard/easy I've been driving the car and how much city/highway driving during that tank. I fill up when its convenient, knowing that when the car tells me I have 50 miles left, I can really drive over 100 miles if I'm on the highway or easy on the gas in the city. And no issues with my fuel pump so far. If I ever have an issue, I'll be sure to post it up along with a similar summary of my driving habits.

Also, DE knows his $hit. He wasn't being mean - just a little curt. Your initial post may have been English, but it certainly wasn't very clear.

Actually, to be completely honest, I rarely look at the miles remaining indicator. I keep that display on the outside temp 99% of the time. I reset one or both of my mileage counters every time I fill up, so I just use that to judge when I need gas. Sometimes I'm prompted to get gas before I need it just because I get annoyed having to turn off the reminder every time I turn on the car when it thinks I have less than 50 miles remaining.

I've found the gauge not overly reliable, I've been caught a couple times now out of gas due to range left... now I just got by how many miles I've put on the tank. 600kms is about the max I will go, but I've done 725-750kms on a tank, hwy of course.

It seems as though the computer figures Range by your recent driving style. When I drive it easy a while before filling up, I see the range from 450-500 miles. If I drive it hard for a while and then fill up, I've seen as low as 350 miles. For this reason, I don't trust it.

As far as fuel acting as a cooling agent for the pump, I don't know how true that is. In my experience, I've replaced fuel pumps that sit at the top of the tank. Not sure of the placement of the pump on the Z, so I can't be completely sure, but in other vehicles, fuel was not intended to help keep the fuel pump cool. Just my 2 cents.

Am I missing something? My speedo and my tach have a clear piece of plastic in front of the gauge\display, but the computer\gas gauge doesn't. Just noticed that this weekend and wondered if it was supposed to be like that.

^^ Yes, supposed to be like that.

I would rather that the digital display was analog or more advanced digital and blends in better. The rectangular display and silver color don't look right.

I'd also rather that the digital clock be for oil pressure and analog.
