New C&D, 7AT 370Z wicked fast time

1 Attachment(s)
I'm pretty amazed...the latest C&D has the 7AT pegged at a 0-60 time of 4.6s! That's the best I've seen yet. Terrible skidpad result though.

Enjoy.

kannibul 09-28-2009 06:36 PM

Doesn't it get around .98G from another review?

Either way, that's a lot of stick. .91 or .98...

cdawg410 09-28-2009 07:56 PM

Sorry to harp but I can't help myself..... The people at Car and Driver plainly state that they don't know why someone would get this car in an AT (quicker or not). I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

Personally, I'd buy the 6MT if it was doing 5.2s 0-60 vs the 7AT pulling a 4.6s. But that's just me. You can't compensate for the fun and feel of a true manual.

frost 09-28-2009 09:06 PM

Come on, anything but another tranny debate.

shumby 09-28-2009 09:07 PM

^^^^ not this crap again. really are we really going to turn this into a 7AT vs 6mt thread? come on guys keep that out of here. He was just posting the times. let it be what it is.

shumby 09-28-2009 09:07 PM

you beat me to it frost

frost 09-28-2009 09:11 PM

Great minds think alike

nogoodname 09-28-2009 09:11 PM

here comes all the lurkers now.....lol

whenever there's a heat, a crowd lingers in

frost 09-28-2009 09:12 PM

No joke, there are 11 people viewing this thread and I know 1 of them. And when I don't know you, you're a lurker. :icon17:

cdawg410 09-28-2009 09:34 PM

I all but admitted that I was being an a-hole by bringing it up but IT IS a conversation that is made for this kind of forum. We all appreciate the car regardless of the tranny, but if there is gonna be any one upsmanship in regards to this car, not having to do with how much money you can afford to spend in upgrades, it's the 6mt v 7at. It's fun and as long as we keep it civil it can stay that way.

With the adult talk out of the way....... 7at is for ninnies.

chris410 09-28-2009 09:35 PM

Nice!

zman1910 09-28-2009 09:36 PM

108mph trap!!! damn. Ain't no 6mt comin close to that....stock that is. An auto with bolt ons should be in the 12's easy. There's too large of a gap to ignore the diff when choosing trannies.

I'm gonna venture to say that the trap time ranks second to the ability to apply lipstick while driving for those 7at'ers.

Jk, Jk.............................. Kind of.............. Jk, Jk

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 09:45 PM

So much 6MT vs. 7AT bs all over this forum... we don't need anymore. Drive what you want... don't worry about anyone else.

fairladyZ34 09-28-2009 09:46 PM

either tranny is good

Well, the bs usually starts from 6MT owners knocking on 7AT owners.

And some people would be happy to have either one!

haha....good to know I can apply lipstick while still seeing you in the rearview mirror.....multitasking baby!

cdawg410 09-28-2009 09:54 PM

Honestly, if I were more secure in my manhood, I'd probably have gone with an AT. I can't drink when ever I take it out cause my wife can't drive it. I can't swap cars with my mom (SL500) cause she can't drive it and a right forearm that looks like I'm a chronic fapper cause I shift like a maniac (possible hyperbole somewhere in there, but not the fapper part, I swear).

I'm gonna say those few tenths of a second would not allow you to see me at all......... I'd be right about where our glorious non-functioning back window/blindspot is, but I like where your head's at.

edeeZee 09-28-2009 09:59 PM

WOW...I made a thread about this a couple months ago. Auto is FAST. Never thought it'd be this way.

All the exotics i.e. Ferrari, Lambo are phasing out manuals. Doesn't this portend to something?

Albeit I drive a manual, a manual is to VHS as a automatic nowadays is to Blueray.

Retort: Professional athletes and CEO's don't know how to drive manuals and Danica Patrick is a Indycar driver. I'm not sayin, I'm just saying. They got me to use a computer, I'll be damned if they get me to drive an AT. Better, Faster or otherwise........ THIS IS AMERICA DAMMIT.

m4a1mustang 09-28-2009 10:07 PM

I will always prefer a proper manual transmission, but I can't deny the superiority of the modern automatic transmission. Not too many years ago the ATs would lose one or two tenths per shift to their manual counterparts. Not anymore...

Hell, the first 370 I drove was a 7AT... and I LOVED it.

Actual the anaglogy you want is VHS v. DVD, Blu-ray is just higher quality DVD with no extra gains (maybe online connectivity but that can be found in DVD also).

At the quoted line, this is not for the AT v. 6MT debate, but those companies have also spent millions on perfecting the technology. Now Nissan has been working just as hard, and has made a 7AT that I myself almost bought, but there is a rather large difference between what Ferrari/Lambo are doing and what Nissan is doing with the automatics. Will Nissan be there? Someday, but not today.

kenchan 09-28-2009 10:07 PM

i wouldn't go as far as comparing AT's to electronically controlled double clutch manuals (SMG/DSG, etc).

those are more like manuals than conventional AT's. when the clutch is engaged, it is
engaged. does not slush around.

cdawg410 09-28-2009 10:14 PM

Just so I don't get flamed when I go to bed (I get nightmares and cold sweats). My favorite person on this thread drives a 7AT. It's ALL GOOD, either way you go. I'm just doing a little late night rabble-rousing.

Anecdote: When I was a kid and I was emulating driving, making engine noise with my mouth, you know with the vrrrmm.... vrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, vrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I always had both hands on the make believe steering wheel.

kenchan 09-28-2009 10:17 PM

when i was a kid, all my vrrroom vrroooom sounds were MT... even had a poor shift into 2nd gear with a slight slip on the clutch sound. lol :D

rudi 09-28-2009 10:29 PM

If the AT wasn't as good as it is, there wouldn't be a debate.

And with the reported 6MT synchro problems that seem to be happening, there really is no debate.

Sorry, couldn't resist... ;)

Ahem...on a more serious note, I've owned plenty of manuals, and currently own this manual:

All I can say is I have just as much fun in my 370Z with 7AT, especially with (or maybe because of) the tiptronic shifter and paddleshifters!

BanningZ 09-29-2009 01:47 AM

Aww I missed another Transmission debate.

I like both the 6mt and the 7at. I personally do not like either. :icon17:
