I drive the 7AT because I'm too lazy to clutch. I've said it and I feel better.

If we could run the two side by side we'd get a better feel for the actual difference. The 6MT driver has NO room for error and I think that sums up the bottom line between the two transmissions.
It's nice you took the best 6MT clocking and compared to the more consistent auto time. Most 6MT's(from mags) are clocking around 5 sec to 60 and the quarter in 13.4 and higher. Of course naturally the manual will require more attention....but in the real world no one gives that much attention unless you are a seasoned drag racer.

3-4 tenths of a sec(and a 108mph trap) is a pretty significant gap to me.....especially since it can be repeated pretty easily over and over.

It's kind of funny that this was posted the same time that autoweek ripped apart the automatic.

You've seen 0-60 times for the 7AT at 4.6s routinely before? I think this is the best I've seen from the 7AT.

FWIW, the 2 fastest stock strip times I've seen so far were 7ATs, a 13.1 and a 13.2.

The only way to resolve the performance difference between the two is obviously race side by side at the track with a driver who can drive a manual. This will never happen in the magazines, so we'll never know unless two owners go to the track and test it. I believe that any gain made by the automatic will be in the first sixty feet, after that it would be fairly equal with a slight advantage going to the manual in the top end. Steve, please correct me if I'm wrong here so I don't have to change my order and get a 7AT instead.

Now that said, my drag racing days at the track are over. Any spirited driving would be from a roll on the interstate or divided highway for a short distance instead of light to light. Understand, I do not condone street racing of any type, made enough poor judgement calls during the nineties and was very fortunate my friends and I in the Norfolk-Va Beach area never had an accident or hurt anyone. Any Z rolling up to on me on the highway would get a respectful thumbs up and an invite to pull over and talk about our cars. Chances of that happening in Maine are slim however, I think only four have been sold so far in the entire state.

Am not purchasing a 370Z to compete against my fellow Z owners regardless of transmission choice! Other performance cars that may challenge me in a responsible manner, now that's a different story. "You run what you brung"

hahha nice man.

So which one?

Ghost Shit
You know you've shit. There's shit on the toilet paper, but no shit in the bowl.

Teflon Coated Shit
Comes out so slick, clean and easy that you don't feel it. No traces of shit on the toilet paper, you have to look in the bowl to be sure you did it!

Gooey Shit
This has the consistency of hot tar. You wipe your ass 12 times and it still doesn't come clean. You end up putting toilet paper in your underwear so you don't stain it. This shit leaves permanent skid marks in the toilet.

Second Thought Shit
You're all done wiping your ass and you're about to stand up when you realize it.....you've got some more.

Pop a Vein in Your Forehead Shit
This kind is the kind of shit that killed Elvis. It doesn't come until you're all sweaty, trembling and purple from straining so hard.

Bali Belly Shit
You shit so much you lose 5 kilos.

Right Now Shit
You better be within 10 seconds of a toilet. Usually it has its head out before you get your pants down.

King Kong or Commode Choker Shit
This shit is so big that you know it won't go down the toilet unless you break it into smaller chunks. A coat hanger works well. This kind of shit usually happens at someone else's house.

Wet Cheeks Shit
This shit hits the water sideways and makes a BIG splash that gets your *** wet.

Wish Shit
You sit there all cramped up and fart a few times, but no shit!

Cement Block or Oh God Shit
You wish you'd gotten a spinal block before you shit.

Snake Shit
This shit is fairly soft and about as big around as your thumb and at least three feet long.

Cork Shit (Also Known as Floater Shit)
Even after the third flush, it's still floating in there. My god! How do I get rid of it? This shit usually happens at someone else's house.

Mexican Food Shit (also called Screamers)
You'll know it's alright to eat again when your ******* stops burning.

Beer Drunk Shit
This happens the day after the night before. Normally your shit doesn't smell too bad, but this shit is BAD. Usually there's somebody standing outside to use the bathroom. This kind of shit also usually happens at someone else's house.

The Frightened Turtle
The kind of shit that just pokes its head out then quickly goes back in

The Bungee Shit
The kind of shit that just hangs off your ass before it falls into the water.

The Ring of Fire Shit
The kind of shit where you eat really spicy food and your ******* feels like the inside of a cigarette lighter.

The Crippler
The kind of shit where you have to sit on the toilet so long your legs go numb from the waist down.

The Big Bobber
The kind of shit that no matter how many times you flush it always floats back to the surface.

The Shitty Shitty Bang Bang
The kind of shit that hits you when you're trapped in your car in a traffic jam.

The Incredible Hulk Shit
The king of shit that sits in the toilet overnight and mysteriously expands to twice it's normal size.

The Jack the Ripper Shit
The kind of shit that yanks out the hair of your ass as it pushes its way out.

The Party Pooper
The giant shit you take at a party. And when you flush the toilet, you watch in horror as the water starts to rise.

The Toxic Gas Shit
The kind of shit that makes you pass out and fall of the toilet before you finish, and then you wake up in some strange South American town.

Dirty Bowl Shit
The kind of shit that comes out in a million pieces a second, reminiscent of an avalanche - but with rocket propulsion, and splatters all over the toilet bowl.

The Windy City Shit
When you sit down, and fart for so long and hard that you no longer need to take a shit.

Oh Shit! Shit
You shit so much and wipe your ass so furiously you run out of toilet paper and you say OH SHIT!

The Never Ending Shit
It's the shit that keeps running out of your ass like pea, and just when you start wiping your ass your stomach gargles and splash, more shit runs out. This always happens after eating at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Ouch That Hurt Shit
The type of shit that leaves you feeling like you just hoped onto a bicycle without a seat. Sensation usually lasts hours.

Cool

This auto, dsg autos, and double clutch autos will pull faster times on a stock car.
This has been the trend over the last few years. Autos have been getting better and better.
1980's- manuals avg being faster by 1.2 seconds.
1990-s- gap began closing in the early 90' that by mid 90's autos were only .05sec slower.
Early 2000's we began seeing autos that would match acceleration times of the manual or be .01 second slower. Porsche, aston martin vehicles and ZF trannies changed the game on autos.
By the middle 2000's you began seeing autos that beat manuals by .02 to .05 seconds.
The manual still is superior in standard mod applications and is the only tranny of choice in drifting sports..
But on stock motors and on ultra advanced racing cars like formula 1. Autos are now superior for track times. Also in formula 1 and several other types of extremely high speed racing sports. Most use automated manuals. Meaning, paddle shift n no clutch.

I love the manual, but if I lived in a major urban area where I drove the car daily I would have opted for the auto.
