Ugh, VCuomo, I wish you luck and hope all goes well for once. I've had similar 'when it rains, it pours' incidents in the past. Nothing like that though.

As for those who can't see the damage, the three lines down below the license plate on the bottom portion of the bumper that go horizontally all the way across from right to left. That's not dirt.

I won't know if it's through the clear coat until I get the time to try buffing it out. I can't feel anything, but, Nissan isn't exactly known for having quality paint or a large helping of clear coat, so.. we'll see.

And .... people think we are being stupid and obsessive.

"Its just a car dude".

Uhmmmm. NO. it is way more than that.

Sorry for troubles OP. GL on repair.

That bumper is only 3 months old? :)

Looks like that could be polished out.

not just you... people just don't care... well, most of them anyway... i was sitting at a wal mart one time waiting for my girl to run in and get something... i was parked way out by myself... i watched this woman pull-in in her suv and her child got out of the back door and repeatedly knocked the door into the car next to them... the mother looked at the damage, they got back into her suv, and moved to the other side of the parking lot... when the owner of the car came out, i pointed him in the right direction... people suck :shakes head:

kenchan 09-05-2014 08:41 AM

sorry to hear and see, op. :( that does suck. i think the best bet would be to try polishing it out as you mentioned.. or if you have low deductible, just take it into a bodyshop for repair.

i too believe people dont give a f- about other people's belongings.. thus i have a dd.

ive had too many cars getting dinged, keyed, crashed into while parked. :ugh:

Oh, this guy.. :icon18:

In all seriousness, it bugged me all week. Couldn't ever get time away from the family to wash her. The Z is my DD, so I had just finished driving 1600 miles round trip. It also rained almost 90% of the time I was in Memphis and northwest Alabama.

Thankfully she is now clean, although it does look like Austin is going to get rain today. Just hopefully during the day and not tonight while I am at work!

Here are better pictures as requested. The more I look at it the more it looks like a shopping cart, but I can't for the life of me figure out how it would do that unless someone literally drug it all the way across the back.

Going to try and polish it out this weekend. If luck is not on my side I'll just have the whole bumper resprayed. That should cost about the same as my insurance deductible. I'm not sure I'd report it unless it was grossly more than that.

This thread is so painful to read.

Justice97 09-05-2014 09:46 AM

Those should buff out i wouldn't sweat it.

My outlook, I don't worry about the things I can't control.

I have had my car keyed by jealous ex wanna be boyfriends (the girl paid for it to get fixed).
I have been bumped in the back. Light tap some damage, but you have to look to see it, oh well carry on no need to get insurance involved. I bought a new bumper already, just waiting for more damage to make it worth the work of replacing.
As to VCuomo's story...ughh must have been a real drag and waste of time. I would have laughed when faced with laughing or raising hell; better for the heart.

These are cars and in the end I care not, as long as I have my health.
I was actually cut off the other day by a careless driver. I was so angry so I cut him off. Then i realized what kind of a douche bag I was being, pulled up next to them at light and apologized. He apologized too.

kenchan 09-05-2014 09:51 AM

yah it doesnt look like there is a crease... might just polish off.

Here's my recent sad and long story (as you read this keep in mind that I'm one of those guys who parks out in the north 40, my Z is over 5 years old, and that up until the following happened it was in pristine condition):

I came out of the grocery store one day and there was a deep scratch 3"-4" through the paint at the bottom of my rear bumper - it looked like a shopping cart had slammed into the bumper. The damage was definitely noticeable and impossible to buff out.

Then a month or so later, before I had the chance to get the rear bumper repaired, someone backed up into my front bumper while I was reverse-parked in a parking slot. Nice deep scratches through the clear bra and paint across the bumper, and my Stillen license plate holder was bent. The @sshole that did it just took off. A good Samaritan left a note on my windshield with a description of the car that hit mine and their license plate number; unfortunately, the license plate didn't match the description of the car that hit me (so it was a stolen plate or car or both) and that meant I couldn't go after him to pay for the damages. To further piss me off, I think that was the only time I've ever reverse-parked my Z, and if I hadn't the guy would have hit my already-damaged rear bumper and I would have only had to pay one $500 deductible; but no, now both bumpers were damaged in two separate incidents so I had to pay $1000 in deductibles.

So I got both bumpers repaired, paid my $1000 deductible and then needed to wait at least 3 weeks for the paint to cure before I could take the car in and have the clear bra re-installed. So I waited a bit longer than 3 weeks and then took the car in. The installer and a couple of his helpers went out to look at the car while I waited inside his shop. They came back inside and the installer asks "Did they finish all of the repairs?" I said "Yeah, everything was done. Why?" Then he says "Oh dude, someone hit your front bumper again!" Sure enough, sometime in the last 48 hours someone had smacked my front bumper again and cracked the brand new clear coat in two different places.

At this point I'm more than a little pissed, to say the least. Little did I know that the nightmare was far from over...

So I called the insurance company and filed another claim. And I'm on the hook for another $500 deductible. I took the car back to the same shop and had them repair the front bumper again. A week later the shop guy calls and tells me the car is done, so the next morning I had them pick me up and take me to the shop to get the car. I walked towards the car and was about 20 feet from it when I noticed three scratches (really they were small rips) about 2 inches long each in the clear bra across the bottom lip of the hood. I looked at the shop guy and basically said "WTF? Those weren't there before!". It was pretty clear that whoever put the front bumper back on scratched the hood in the process. The shop guy says "Oh, well, ummm, we must have missed that when we originally assessed the damage. I'll call the insurance company, send them pictures, and get them to authorize fixing the hood damage too." So I looked at him thinking "OK, if that's how you want to play it, that's between you and the insurance company - I'm sure not paying for it."

So 4-5 days go by and the shop guy calls around 1:30pm and says "Your car is done - you can pick it up tomorrow morning!" Around 4:30pm the shop guy leaves me a message on my cell phone saying "Oh man, I can't believe this. I'm so sorry, but we were washing your car and when our guy was driving your car back into our garage he scraped the bottom of your front bumper on our driveway. The bumper is scratched and we'll have to remove and repaint it again." At that point I wasn't sure if I should start swearing or start laughing hysterically. But at least the shop took full responsibility for the damage (with no argument), and they even offered to pay for a rental car if I needed one...

Three days later I finally got my Z back. That was about three weeks ago, and now that the paint has fully cured I'm about ready to schedule an appointment to finally get the clear bra re-installed (although now the hood will have to have its clear bra re-installed too), assuming that nothing else happens to the car in the meantime.

So if anyone wants a referral to a repair shop that has a lot of experience in removing, repairing, repainting, and re-installing 370Z front bumpers, just PM me... :)

Next time I get it bad, I will re-read this post. Sorry to hear, so frustrating!

OP, can you not get a rear diffuser to cover that area up?

NeoRacer 09-05-2014 12:12 PM

I came back to my Z the other day to find some kind brown 'stuff' smeared on the back bumber, not sure if it was chocolate or..it washed out luckily. Asshats..:-S

No, they haven't dropped me - at least not yet. I doubt they will since I've been with them for 15 years or so. But I do expect that my premiums will go up for the next year or two, so I'll start price shopping when I get the next bill.

That's a sad but true fact...I have been with my insurance company 20 +
years. I had a small door ding about two months back from a run away
shopping cart.. All paid for bye out of pocket...

Sorry what happened to your z man, but I watched this documentary once about these rich arab guys who out on holidays to other countries to party and stuff with their expensive cars like, Aventadors, Zondas, Carrera gts, etc and when they leave their car parked out next to other people who don't have cars as nice as theirs, they often find gum on their car or spit and whatnot. So its basically people who don't have respect for other peoples belongings, or they just are jealous of others and hate their life. Be careful were you park your car, and don't be gone for too long to keep your car from being introduced to some other a$$ who parks right next to it.
