Cool Pedal stomp downshift (6MT only)

I noticed recently that if I give the gas pedal a firm stomp (like pumping the clutch) all the way to the floor and release it while shifting it pretty much always sets me up for a smooth shift down one gear. If I hold the stomp barely a second longer it gives me a good segue down two gears. I haven't done any serious experimentation with it like turning the VDC on and off or anything, it's just something I've picked up under normal driving conditions. I also think it works best if you constantly drive aggressively (around 3k RPM) so the car actually revs when you stomp your foot. This lets me downshift without having to look at my RPM gauge to see what I'd have to do to match.

Like I said, haven't really experimented with it but it's happened often enough when I try it for me to think it's worth mentioning.

He was in the Bull Run all you need is money to get in the race... and yes thats called rev matching! thats what the Synchro rev match does for you so you dont have too. not only is it faster than you in doing it but it also allows you to focus on more important things like your braking points! lol I dont brake until I see Jesus!

Geez. Tough crowd.

Either my past experience with manual cars is different than I remember OR none of you bothered to really read what I was saying. Of course it's rev matching and throttle blipping - DUH. That's not what I'm asking about.

What I'm saying is that in my past 350 and Tiburon GT (both manuals) I always had to modulate the throttle differently depending on my RPMs to match revs properly for a good downshift. With my 370, I've found that the pedal stomp, no matter where I am on the tach, gives me a great match. I didn't opt for the SynchroMatch but I'm wondering if the ECU still plays a hand, because I've never had the pedal pushed to the floor like that without the revs jumping way too high for a smooth downshift

Hmm...interesting. So you're saying that it's impossible to over-rev when blipping for a downshift?

IMO....feels like that because its a heavy flywheel...the stomp gets the revs up and then the weight of the flywheel lessens the shock of being in the wrong RPM. What you are doing is just blipping the throttle...nothing more to it. Its just a heavy flywheel..

I agree, it is quite possible to still over-rev the downshift. I know I did it once by accident. But still, it's much easier to take your time since the revs come back down due to the heavier flywheel if you over rev it. Just take your time and it'll become easier and easier. I was actually quite shocked how hard I had to blip in order for it to match properly.

Ah! Flywheel. That's certainly a more plausible explanation. I really like the effect, it's made driving manual a lot more fun compared to my previous cars, where rev matching on the downshift required a lot more attention to the throttle
