Default Steering wheel shaking between 70 and 80 MPH.

Hello Everyone, I have just installed new 20” wheels with lowering kit (1” front almost 1” on the back). I have taken the car to where I got the wheels and they have laser balanced the tires/wheels but when I hit 70 MPH the steering wheels has a very small shake, it happens between 70 and 80, once I’m over 80 the shakes goes away. I have put back the stock wheels and tires and still shakes at the same speeds.

I have done a bit of research with very little results, some say it’ might be the tired rod, some say it might be the struts.

Team, please advise.

Thanks,

Yoshi

Was going to suggest checking the hub size of the wheels, but got to the part where you said your stock wheels produced the same result.

I would make sure the springs are seated properly on the struts. I highly doubt it's a tie-rod issue.

Good point ZBro16, I will have Nissan inspect that. I dont think every Z that has 20" has this issue.

thank you ZBro16.

I think it's simply wheel alignment or a flawed tire.

Would you happen to have put Spacers on also? just asking, cuz if they aren't hub centric then that could be the problem.

How old are your rotors? I have experienced speed-specific wheel shake and I balanced. rebalanced my wheel to no avail. I had my rotors turned and the shake vanished. They can set up a harmonic vibration at certain speeds with very minor imperfections.

I hope this helps.

I bet this is it. I remember having the same problem in my last car. The shakes happened only after I went past 60 and went away if I went over. 70.

when I had that happen, it was a bad balance. 2 of the tires were out of balance even tho they were just mounted a few days ago (20'').

After springs, I get a little shake when the tires are cold at around the same speeds, but it goes away once it warms up.

I remember the exact same thing happening to my moms car. Tire was the cause of it.

thank you All for your input, I have had my wheels laser balance and still having the problem. I'm taking the car to Elite Roads here in Florida to see if I need any centric rings for the wheels.

I will keep everyone posted.

cheers,

Yoshi.

since you mentioned the same thing happens when you put your stock wheels (known good set) on,
it be kinda odd if the use of centering rings help the situation but who knows. might get lucky.

did you try loosening your tower nuts and lower bolts on the strut and re-tighten
with the vehicle weight on the suspension? did you check your strut for leaks?
i think something's up with your sus after your tein s-tech install.
