Any Mechanical Issues I should know about
About to buy a NISMO....
I have being very cautious and please forgive me for asking this question..but honestly I am trying to find a car that is mechanically sound and reliable. I have owned, had friends that have owned, or read of mechanical issues on many cars...like for example 1. Corvette Z06 valve train issues causing engine failure 2. Mustang: Piston #8 failure causing engine failure 3. BMW M3: bearing clearance issues causing engine failure 4. Cobalt SS turbo: Porus block causing engine failure Etc etc..... I know that most of these problems are probably fairly rare or with modifications made worse....however they are obvious and I would like to buy a car that does not have these potential known and documented problems.... Can you guys comment on any issues on the 370Z NISMO that have popped up....recently or in the past...?? Thanks for your help guys ...plan on buying in a couple of weeks so just trying to do my research in advance!! |

Steering lock can fail and leave you stranded if its an early model Z.
Csc will fail if youre looking at a manual. Early models don't have an oil cooler. Early models may also drink oil. |

What are you going to do with it?
Drive it hard at the track? You'll need some upgrades. Weekend cruiser or DD? Should be good to go

Maintain your fluids; consider upgrading to synthetics. Redline seems to the top choice among forum members.
Check your oil regularly. The oil light on the dash is for low oil pressure and will not inform you of low oil until you're several quarts low and damage is already being done. The VQ is a solid engine, but like any engine, if you don't take care of it, bad things may happen.

Cause if you guys aren't holding out on me this is the most reliable sports car I have ever read about...!! Seriously I have researched all of them...and all have a serious problem of one kind or another ... No brainer to buy this one..!! THANKS |

Only problem is if you run it low on oil. These cars can burn some oil if you extend the oil drain interval. IF you make a mistake, it will cost you. If you do short drives, change the oil at 3,000 mile intervals or at least every 3-6 months. Monitoring your oil will tell you what you need to do. Oil Analysis is the best way to tell what to do. The engines are pretty solid. CSC is one thing that will fail. Just keep your clutch fluid exchanged every 15,000 miles and it will last a while. 2012 and up have the stock water type oil cooler. It's OK, but better than not having one like the early 2009-2011 cars.

2014...in fact I was going to buy a new one for 40749 ...
when this popped up Nissan 370Z We Finance | eBay This has navigation and the bose stereo...the new one I was looking at does not have NAV... WTF...that's a 7k drop and with NAV ....wow do they drop that much in value ?? Maybe this is the only flaw?? |

Mine's still a baby but at 1500 miles no issues what so ever. My Mini was in the shop about three times already by this time .

That being said, the first two years of ownership is the highest depreciating years for any brand new car. Negotiate a good price, around invoice if you can and your depreciation will be considerably less. Good luck to you, by the way my 2013Z was picked up in Aug 2012 and absolutely 0 issues. Had a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe (original owner) prior, sold it for the Z and 0 issues with that car as well. Just stay on top of your fluid and consumable changes and you'll be fine. |
