Mercedes 6 cylinder is going in as the powerplant with direct injection, a new 7 speed rev match manual, 8 or 9 speed auto and the hybrid system on the Q series. Wheelbase of 103 inches and 3400 pounds base, 430 combined HP, 350TQ, 1/4 mile 12.5 and runs the Top Gear track in 1:24.6. Any questions?

Here is what I want. Have the next gen base Z powered with whatever V6 or 4 cyl (smaller/lighter) Nissan keeps talking about if they want to go after the BRZ/FRS market instead of bringing back the Silvia platform. Also isn't the iDX supposed to compete in that market? Anyways for the Nismo (performance package) drop in the VR38DETT. Before you go wait a minute they will never use the GTR engine in the Z. With the next GTR use a new engine to keep it the unique halo car for Nissan. This will make the Nismo and IPL badge mean something more than a body kit. This has been rumored to be the next IPL's engine but would cost upwards of $80k-$90k. At which point the current market walks. Might as well get a GTR. So what are we left with at the current Z market price? How do we get that power but keep the cost down? Or can the VR38DETT be delivered in the Z at a better price point than what was rumored? Can Nissan deliver?
All signs are pointing to using a Mercedes engine in their joint venture.

400 hp, 325 lb tq, 3075 lbs from a Japanese factory with equivelant ride and handling to a 911 or Cayman for $60,000. I'd be the exception and buy it. (911s numbers)
However I believe Firebase is correct, this ain't gonna happen. Carlos Ghosn is a shrewd business man that knows, it's the bottom line which keeps his job/bonuses and Nissan in business. He's all about controlling expenses, maximizing sales and profitability. Expanding and re-tooling your manufacturing plant to get into the very niche $60k+ sports car market is loaded with risk and very little potential return. They already have a halo car (GTR) that spanks the competition in the price/performance category, yet are now giving a $10k additional discount to clear out the 2014's. I don't know what's going to happen with the Z, but from a business perspective. I do believe if a new Z comes along, it will be sharing it's engine or engines/chassis with other Nissan/Infiniti vehicles manufactured at the same plant. |

330hp detuned could push 380-450hp tuned by Nissan. If the next Z is 3100-3200lbs with this kind of power? It will be insane. What I also like about the Benz engine is that it produces significantly more torque than the VQ. Out with the old. in with the new, im excited. My gut feeling is Nissan will reclaim it's thrown.

Am I the only one thinking Nissan doesnt care about teh Z anymore? Like someone mentioned earlier that fella Carlos Ghosm or whatever hes called is all about making money. Budget cars are Nissans bread and butter revenue maker right? In this day and age pushing the same model/ platform for 5 years when the competition is now overtaking you in technology and power something is a miss? I remember back in the 80s and 90s the germans would not change their car shape for almost sometimes 7+ years. In this day and age the 370z platform has been around forever. I guess some would see that as it being a success. Some others would see it as no forward thinking vision nor keeping up with the competition.

The 370z has been around alil to long I agree. As long as little bits of info keep leaking out tho I wouldn't worry about it going any where. Nissan needs a whole line up refresh, and they have acknowledged that. We already know of a new maxima, Titan, gtr, and supposedly new 370z.
