Default Dash lights dimming with headlights seems weird

A couple days ago my headlights while set to auto on turned on as usual going through this section of trees right after I leave the house. I then turn the parking lights on b/c it was a bit overcast but didn't want headlights blazing. Felt parking lights and LED strips were enough.

Anyway...as I cleared the trees you could hear a click as you would when the auto feature turns the headlights on or off and the dash lights were no longer dimmed even though the parking lights were on which I thought to be curious. I've now tested this theory and the only time the dash lights dim is when the headlights are on when set to the auto on feature. They won't dim with just the parking lights nor if I actually turn the headlights on. Does this seem strange to anyone else? You can press the buttons to brighten or dim the dash lights all day long and it does nothing unless it's in the auto on with the lights actually on.

EDIT to say, I just looked at the manual and it confirms that they should dim whenever the lights are on whether it be auto, parking or just on. Seems very odd...I've had other electrical quirkiness but nothing that reoccurs for days.

I have the same "issue" in my 2013. My assumption was that the light sensors are adjusting the dash lights to compensate for increased interior light, rather than keeping them dim because the headlights are on. The buttons also stop working when this happens. The first time that it happened, I thought I had picked up a gremlin, but the issue went away quickly and all functions went back to normal. I just don't worry about it when it happens. Nothing else in the vehicle is affected.

My aftermarket radio still dins but the dash lights don't. Guess I'll see what the dealer can do. Small thing but bright interior lights annoy me.

Default Just happened to me

Overcast, rainy conditions, daytime. My guage cluster won't dim with the buttons no matter if lights are on or off. Interior lights such as temp controls etc do dim... Will wait this out and see if it corrects itself. Aftermarket radio still dims with activation of headlights. Checked fuses interior and exterior, all well there... Hmm
