Here's another option for you. Go to KamiSpeed, a forum sponsor and pick up a pair of Zoom Engineering mirrors. Now I am very confident about my surroundings. PM me for a thorough review. Before these mirrors, I apologized profusely. Can't do much about it until I had them on.

The box you see is sitting at 4:00 and 5:00.

Some people will get mad no matter what. If you heard the horns the first time and then stopped, that should have been an indicator to her to either A) continue onward and out of the scenario, or B) back up or move away so that you could continue to back out. The very act of stopping should have indicated that you were willing to wait for her to move. By her sitting there and hitting the horn again, I guess the only other things you could have done would have been to pull back into the spot and wait her out, or try to wave her through. Otherwise, you got out, you didn't hit her, nobody was hurt, so wave goodbye and let her deal with it.

The ones that drive me nuts are the ones that want your parking spot, but don't seem to think about the fact that you need to back out of it first before they can get into it. Those people I just chalk up as retards, and then slowly back towards them, to see if they will eventually get the point.

It's been said already but back into spots. Since getting my Z other than the first day I owned her I never pull in forwards.

I changed my head unit as well and added a backup camera to help with backing into spots.

My backup camera kenwood CMOS 310 has some really good views including super wide and corner views. The corner views is a bit hard to get use to but it will let you see sideways behind you. I will occasionally flip it on to double check blind spots when driving in heavy traffic on the highway. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zCaf3C5l8Ck

My wifes car has a camera but also has an audible alarm if it detects an object when you're in reverse. I think Nissan should add this feature to the Z.
The problem is generally idiot drivers that pay no mind to reverse lights or slowly backing out vehicles. Your blind spots are there, it's going to still be a challenge to see clearly due to the design of the Z. Backing into your spot is the easiest and safest option. The reverse camera does have a good FOV to allow some visibility around corners for backing out. But you shouldn't put 100% trust into it.

I back out slowly as well and use my reverse camera to check around corners. But people are notoriously impatient and will speed by you instead of waiting for you to back out.

I have my fog light set to blink on reverse for just that reason.

Just an FYI the backup camera does not show you all of your blind spots when backing up. The matter becomes worse when you have a truck parked next to you.

One of the main reasons park far away is not just for door dings but to able to see when I back out also. as no cars park next to me.

One thing you can also consider is the convex mirrors that are for motorcycles. They are a bit smaller and don't look retarded on your car. They are about 1 inch around and will cost you about 5 bucks.

Or you could always just get a roadster and drop the top. You can see pretty much everything after that.

I learned shortly after getting my Z that backing up out of a parking space can be like walking through a mine field.

Our cars a low so we usually are not visible next to other cars. The blind spot adds to the perfect storm. Then add the clueless parking lot speeders.

My routine was to roll my windows down so I can hear if a car is coming that I couldn't see. Ease out until I can see out of the passenger side port hole. Do a full scan and back out.

I recently replaced my stock radio and added a back up camera. This doesn't completely solve the problem but it does provide increased visibility.

Backing into spots is the best option before getting the camera I was concerned about docking and screwing up my exhaust/muffler.

This is the biggest problem I've had with my Z, combined with a large vehicle (like a pickup truck, SUV, or minivan) parked right next to me that makes it impossible to see if there's anyone coming up the lane you're about to back into. I just backup very slowly and watch like a hawk. There's nothing much else you can do.

Default NO Blind Spot

dP3NGU1N suggestion really works. I learned this years ago from some Insurance Co pamplet . You can make split second decisions, and save your own ***. Try it! Get use to it. There does not have to be a blind spot.
Cheers

Quick story: When leaving a shopping center one day I saw a lady in a big SUV back up and hit (not injure) 2 small children. The driver didn't even notice, put it in drive, and off she went. The kids mother (rightfully) started cussing at the lady and ran after her - but the driver NEVER noticed.

For this matter I always back up slowly and honk my horn a few times as I'm backing up. I look like a total goodie two shoes doing that since I think I'm the only person that honks - but I have yet to run over children.

I immediately stopped and scanned, but I couldn't see them so I knew they were in my blind spot and waited a good 5 seconds to let them pass. All the sudden I hear another honk and I couldn't see where they were at. At this point after seeing my rear was cleared, I backed out completely and saw a scion that was in my 5 o'clock position with a lady in the passenger seat frantically flailing her arms about. Being a grown up person, I rolled down my window and apologized and told her that I couldn't see out of of the vehicle when they're in our giant blind spot. Her respond was "well you should do something about that, you almost cause a "major" collision". I had a smart *** comment for her, but I felt it would be inappropriate to use as I was in the wrong.

Anyway, what do you guys usually do about that? As far as dealing with the situation and dealing with the blind spot itself. I wanted to get out of the car and wave them through, but I had my sidearm on me and felt that getting out of the car and possibly getting into an armed conflict would be an extremely bad idea.
Why does weapon use even enter this decision matrix. Im retired military. I dont think of parking lots and incredibly benign situations like this go into a weapons use framework. If that is problem you could have left the car and been polite with the weapon safely out of sight in the car.

I feel that having a weapon on you, you must be even more responsible in avoiding any type of conflict. Not knowing the state of mind of the other person, getting out of the car could be interpreted as an issue of challenge, and a conflict could ensue. Getting into a brawl where deadly force is a real possibility, I tend to avoid it altogether. This disciple was beaten into me during my time in RI, and I still carry the same mentality with me to this day.

I ordered a cheapy backup camera from Walmart for my Kenwood, hope it works.
