Beater 370z - Who's Got One?
There are a lot of very nice Z's on here, but I remember my broke high school and college days driving beater cars. Driving around with things broken that I just couldn't afford to fix and driving with a lot of jerry-rigged repairs. But I've never seen a true beater 370z. Got one? What's it look like and what's wrong with it?
|
This car is too expensive to be a beater (at least for me). That's what I have an S14 for ;)
|
I agree, too expensive for a beater. That's why I have a 2001 BMW 530i for a beater.
|
I beat on it, and it's my bitch, I'd go off-roading if I could... Lol
Dad backed into a pole... I won't fix it... |
There out there. Some hoarder with money. Or unappreciative human with no sense of value.
|
I guess you could say mine is a beater. It's my DD and sees all weather conditions. I take it camping. I take it fishing. I drive it on roads and off... it sees a lot of abuse.
I might actually do a little paint correction on it one of these days, though. |

It's a car... My dad came to me in the morning and said "I got into an accident last night with your car. I didn't want to tell you because I didn't think you'd sleep" My word for word reply: "I don't give a fúck. Shít happens." And I drove to work, lol. I love/hate my car (for obvious reasons) but I don't give a FÚCK about it compared to any family member or any friend. And if I can get my day to day stuff in a fun car, I'm going to. If I'm gonna cry about every door ding, every swirl, every paint chip... It's not worth it. I'd rather become a Mormon and deal with 5 wives.

I take mine fishing and camping too, lol Can't take it hunting though... Too low... I WISH rally cross (with dirt) was bigger in the US. I'd love to do that with the 370Z |

Mine's my DD too and I have taken it mountain biking, camping, dirt roads etc. I just could not afford this car as a beater. |
We should first establish the meaning of "beater." I view it as a car that does the **** work, when a nicer vehicle is left behind so it does not get messed up.
If the Z is your only vehicle, I don't think that qualifies as a beater. |

To me a beater would be something that I take off road into fields around here and run through bushes. If I run into a tree, or put a huge dent in it it shouldn't matter. IMO a beater is normally a car that if insurance saw it would be totalled.

But yeah if I ran it into a tree I might be a little miffed. :icon17: |
The Z34 has a few more years of service left before it becomes anyone's beater car...
I still see plenty of people -- and not random kids, mind you -- driving around in sad looking vehicles from the early to mid 80's... |
I think it is safe to assume anyone hear that uses their Z as a "daily driver" is their beater.
|
I have seen all kinda cars as beaters in the sense that most of us call a beaters as Read T stated prior, these people here in DFW got too much money on there hands. I have seen Benz beaters, Z's 350 and 370, newer Lexus etc, all with plenty dings and scratches.
|
My first beater was a 1980s sentra that we called the "field car" and we'd rally it around in cow pastures. One day it went halfway up a tree. Front end was pretty much gone but it still ran fine. It was missing a few gears and most of the interior. /beater
another way to look at it, in my eyes a beater is what you'd take to LeMons or Chump Car |

I wouldn't call a DD car a beater. One can drive their car back and forth to work and stay take care of it (such as myself).
To me, a beater is basically a car you don't care about. It's meant to serve a purpose (usually a dirty, rough kind of purpose), and you honestly don't care if it survives or not, because you can always replace it with another cheap piece of junk if it dies. Ideally, a good beater would be something like an old corolla or civic. They're tough enough to take the beating and the neglect and still keep rolling, but if it made its last gasp, you wouldn't cry too much over it. Chevy cavaliers make good beaters too. You just have to replace them more often... |
I just saw this 2009 on Autotrader for $9,990. Ad says it runs and drives. Anyone have a 370z beater that can compete with this?

Looks like someone didn't have insurance...
|
:icon14:Omg did someone unleash a rabid racoon in that car?
|
Those pics are priceless lol
|
I beat on the Z, but it's not a beater :driving:
I try to take care of her and keep her as clean as I can for a DD. I've even hand polished her a few times over the years. Definitely not a beater. My wife's 2013 Acura ILX is more of beater to me - it's a lease, so I pretty much treat it like a rental car :icon17: |
my 2001 tacoma 4x4 w/201k miles on it is my beater. never would classify a Z as a beater
