Damn it. I live in California... If they drill into my front bumper, I'm going to throw a fit!
It should be illegal for them to DRILL into the car. Since California is gave us the requirement that we need a front plate, they should pay for the cost of designing a bracket that does NOT damage the car in a permanent manner. A bracket should be designed that goes from the inner front bumper-gate, out to a plate bracket. That way if I sold my car to someone who lives in another state that doesn't require the front plate, the car is NOT damaged by a DRILL! WTF? And if I tell them that they can install the front plate with a special bracket BEFORE they drill into my front bumper, they won't do it and they'll still DRILL INTO THE BUMPER! Who's going to pay for those damages to my front bumper!?

Yeah... I'd like to see you get away with that!
Although, what's funny is that the Solstice (a black car) hasn't gotten a front plate ticket, (knock on wood) and the the 300zx (a red car) has. In fact it got 2.

In Oregon, we are required to have both. They always look like they took a hammer and Sinker nails to make the holes. I have taken off many a' factory plate holder, and seen the cracks and damage that dealers have caused. Pathetic and sad.

I once saw mechanics at an Infiniti dealership toss around wrenches over the hood of cars that were being serviced. If one of them dropped, DING! But dealerships vary and there are good ones out there.

Still don't need them in AZ, although now that the photo radar has gone "big" I'm sure the front plate requirement will be coming out soon. When that happens, I have to figure out a way to register my car in another state that doesn't require them.
(AZ already just came out with a law that license plate frames cannot block "ARIZONA" on the plate, no doubt a result of the speeder cams) |

Of course you can order from the factory. You just go to the dealership, configure all the options you want on the car and then tell them to order it. They generally have you put a deposit down on the car (I put down $1000 when I ordered my G sedan). It's that simple. Then when the car comes you go pick it up (or they'll bring it to you if you live far away from the dealership) and you pay for it (set up the financing), etc... When you order from the factory you generally aren't able to get as good a deal as when you buy off the lot but getting the exact car you want (not having to compromise on choosing from only what they have on the lot) makes up for it for those who do it. More people don't buy from the factory because most people are impatient and want their vehicle right away. My G sedan was the first car I ever ordered from the factory and it was a very positive experience. I will never buy off the lot again.
