apparently the infinity q80 inspiration concept will have a 3L TT v6 hybrid making 550hp. Now that would be perfect in the Z35

Youre sure it's not the 3.8

Ok sorry bro ... It's a 3.0 hybrid. Makes a lot more sense. There's probably 120-150hp on the hybrid, I had to reread.

I think people are stretching this Benz engine issue kind of thin. There are other ways of getting the Benz engine design other than outsourcing it from Benz. Nissan can do what Hyundai did with the 2.0 engine of the genesis coupe. Follow the schematic if the original engine. In Hyundai's case it was a Mitsubishi Lancer engine. Hyundai's failure was using sub-standard components to lower costs on the build. I would hope & highly doubt Nissan would go cheap like Hyundai.
Also, people think the marriage between Nissan and Benz was needed by Nissan. It was actually Benz that needed help on two fronts. Suspension & transmission tuning on non AMG vehicles. And the BENZ 3.0tt is a brand new engine that performs and resembles very closely to every VQ/HR that's been produced over the last 8 years. It just seems like the BENZ motor is a lower displacement version of the VQ with in-house turbos added. Doesn't seem complex at all for Nissan to use there plant to build a Nissan engine off of a Benz schematic. In fact. I think it's perfectly doable.

Lets theoretically say Nissan gave up secrets of the VQ to Mercedes so they can design that new 3.0tt. In exchange, Mercedes gives up the schematic on the final TT version to Nissan.
Mercedes promises to use detuned versions of the 3.0tt and it's dloable because the proprietary 4.0 bi turbo is the performance engine.

Then Nissan promises to ONLY use the tuned up version of the 3.0tt in the Z (maybe maxima?) and Q series. Since Benz HO engines are 4.0 turbo v8s and Nissans tuned engine is a high compression, high revving 3.0TT v6, No one steps on each other's toes and they reap the benefits.

Very well said. I hope your right.

The z35 should be called the 400z and have a 4.0 naturally aspirated v8 with 400hp. Done.

People speak of the Infiniti Q60 coupe like its a concept car. I see a few every day, my neighbor BOUGHT one.

I actually prefer the g37 over the q60... but the q50 on the other hand is pretty nice!

IF (BIG IF) they decide to tier the engines I think they should drop the displacement Z and just go back to the real name. Fairlady Z.

it's going to suck when none of us are right and they do something completely different lol :roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

What is slightly irritating is they havent released anything. Not even a concept model. I thought they said last november it was to be revealed.

If its to be released in 2016 and we are only a couple months until 2015 im assuming at least a concept version should be out soon?

brucelidat 10-03-2014 12:28 PM

I'm expecting a concept to show up at the Tokyo show.

It would be nice. It would seem the smarter thing to do would be release something under the table but not bring attention it was there design for the Z just a concept and see what people think of it. Look at the new supra for instance its a stunning car but some people dont like the front bumper. But thats not a deterrent factor of buying....

But if the z came out and had a lot of ugly qualities or odd things it would be goood to get the attention now so you can alter design. They probably have less then a handful of desogn guys on this car it woukd be a good idea to not let them determine everything looks wise.

I saw the concept 350z sketches that were out there and then I saw the concept in person at the LA auto show right before it had its last final tweaks to the door handle. Front bumper. Headlights and rear bumper.

I dont remember a ton of people really liking the door handles so they made a change... uglier in my opinion but a change.

Imagine a smart car maker putting 4 sketches on here with a poll and did this on numerous forums and listened to the feedback from consumers... they would no doubt sell more.

Most of us know what looks good. Therr have been some masterpieces put together for 350z and 370z. Even with a couple mild modifications. .. like blacking the headlights housing the car looks better. How about a carbon diffuser setup like the one from carbon signal for the nismo. It looks better

Just my opinion but I believe feedback is what most intelligent companies do. My wife's fsmily owns a marketing firm where companies will send products and people test and give feedback. Car makers should do this and could use top gear guys or other intelligent car people.

They have shown this IDx concept and GTR but the Z is some mystical unicorn?

I think they just roll stuff out when its ready.

The new snazzy Nismo may secretly give some clues about design ideas they are toying with for the Z35... that was a lot of refreshing and fanfare for the last year of a very specific sub-model, especially since they just refreshed the Nismo a wee bit like a year ago...

I'd just keep watching Infiniti. They historically have debuted new tech, platforms and engines right before the Nissan variants are debuted.
