Toyota back in the game with new " z killer?
According to ride lust and edmunds.com.
Toyota WILL be producing a RWD CELICA GT AND GT-4. These cars will be 2+2 coupe and 3door hatch config. The N/A GT will get a 2.0ltr 220 hp engine with a weight of 2,866lbs. The GT-4 will be a turbo or twin turbo of the same engine pushing 300-320hp and possibly an 8,000rpm redline. This car will be under under 3klbs as well. TT just changes the high end torque loss issue n this car might be a beast? To make it hurt even more... photos look like it will be a quality ride starting under $20k Looks like even the genesis coupe is gonna need a refresh soon or its bargain potential will fall thru the floor... Lastly, toyota back in the day had a rep for true sports cars in 2+2 form. It might come to the u.s.a. as a toyota or subaru or both but it looks like it may be coming for sure. What u guys think? Comp for the Z or no? |

Not unless they can actually do it.
There has been talk about this lightweight, quick (200-250HP) car from Toyota/Subaru for awhile now. I heard at one point it was not going to happen and then a few months later it was online still.

So, if I'm reading correctly, it'll be a 4-banger, right? One NA, the other TT? I have nothing against 4-cyl. cars per se. But if it wants to be seen as direct competition for the Z, I think they need a 6. Otherwise it'll be considered to be in a different class. Take the STi for example. I think it's even quicker than the Z, right? But I think most people consider the STi and Z to be in different genres, if that makes any sense.

2012 Toyota/Suburu AE86?
This has been discussed for 3 years now. Its either the new AE86, Supra or Celica. It will be under 3000lbs, and most likely reach the US shores in a 200-220hp model under the Subaru badge. |

I'm not worried about any car that's out or that comes out. I'm on the road a lot, and let me tell you there is nothing that competes with a 370 driven by a "good driver". I almost feel bad for all these cars that are supposed be formidable and they consistently get spanked on.

Sorry, even with a TT setup, a 370z would best a TT car that has similar paper-numbers.
Meaning the torque curve on the Z would best the spin-up turbo power... |

Coming from the 08 Audi TT 2.0T which is a 4 cyl single turbo under 3K lbs and with a chip I was doing 0 60 in 5.5. Audi now has the TTS 4 cyl 2.0T with a slightly bigger turbo that does 4.9 stock and about 4.5 chipped. Now they have the TTRS which is a 5 cyl turbo that does 4.5 stock and less when chipped. So a 4 banger can hang when done right. But not for less than 40K for Audi. I loved my Audi but I love the new Z too. I went with the Z this time cuz I already had 2 Audi TTs and wanted something different and Ive always loved the Z, just waited till they inproved the interior before I got one. Love the exhasut note on the Z compared to the TT too.
