Anyone know how long this been happening? I pump with chevron all the time.

I once used Chevron exclusively.

I have no idea why, other than more profit or honest mistake.

Considering gas is all the same, it probably is a supplier issue outside of Chevron so will have to track down shipments and what contaminated it.

I feel ripped off...I'm paying for premium and not getting what I paid for. Can I call and get refund?

It will depend on what Chevron finds, and how bad the situation is.
Many gas stations are independent owners which pay for branding, but Chevron has some say. I would advise keep any receipt that you got from the time you know you get bad gas, and if you currently are running any then add in some octane booster.

None, it is all the same (minus the "additives").

The same company that makes the best oil!

I prefer Shell premium. I used to use Ammoco Premium back in the day until BP bought them out. What sealed the deal with BP is the oil spill catasrophe in the Gulf.

the best stations are ones with the cleanest bathrooms imo.

those are usually in rich folk areas and rich folks use premium often to keep things circulating for our Z's.

In my experience, it has more to do with the particular station and not the brand of gas. If they don't maintain their tanks properly, it doesn't matter what the sign says, you're going to get crappy gas. As a rule-of-thumb, if the grounds are neat, the bathrooms are clean, the pumps are nice and shiny, &c (ie, it looks like the owners/operators care about maintenance), the gas is OK.

Don't know if it's true or not but I've heard that most gas stations get their gas from the same refinery, it just has slightly different additives* put in the tanker before they fill it up with the same stuff everybody else is getting.

*As far as I can tell, there's not a nickle's worth of difference between 'em

kenchan 07-11-2014 01:44 PM

yah, that's wat ive heard too. i hear it's not like there are 3 tank rollies carrying different grades of unleaded to each of the stations. :icon17:

the station generates the 3 grades and maintains the quality of them under their brand's protocol. or something.

but then, filthy stations you can bet they dont give a f- about premium gas.

kenchan 07-11-2014 01:44 PM

oh shitttt, my cigarette butt fell in the tank below.
oh dont worry jonnyboy, who gives a f- they cant see it anyway.

hell people can be pouring grape juice into their tanks. they wont know the difference.

:ugh:

This^^^^^ but in those areas they also charge more for the gas. I definately look for stations that take care of their place. I will pay a few extra dollars for piece of mind, imagined or not.

That's been my experience as well. I just returned from a 4500-mile road-trip family vacation in my wife's Altima. Somewhere about the 1000 mile mark we apparently picked up some bad gas.

At first I thought the CRV (or whatever it's called) transmission was going. A very bad feeling in a very sparsely populated mountainous area far from home. She feared it was a problem with the plugs or ignition coils that she had replaced a few months earlier as the car's behavior was similar.

We eventually figured out that it was likely bad gas. The problem gradually improved as we continued our trip, and we had no issues on our final day (yesterday).
