Shifting points?
Hey guys, I just bought a new 370z sport touring. I am not sure where my shift points should be, is 3k overkill?
|
Depends on what you are doing. 3K for putt putting around is fine. 7K is good for flogging it. Listen to the motor and you'll figure out your driving style and when you should shift. Now go out and enjoy it!

Oy..

Cruising around I shift at 3-4k. Having fun with semi-spirited I shift at 5-6k. Pushing it I shift at as close to the redline as I can get. If I am driving for economy I shift at 2k. It's all good.
During break-in I set the indicator at 4k and made sure to shift before then, but after that the engine will take whatever you throw at it.:driving: |
Ummm...
Is this a serious question? |

I shift, therefore I am.

Is there a built VQ37 that can do 9k? I find 3500 to 4K to be my normal driving and 7k to be spirited. Very rarely do I push more than that. With Uprev set to 7800, it can bounce off of 8K easily, not so sure about safely. |
I shift at 3K all the time when driving normally.

1st gear- 3500-4k
2nd-3500-4k 3rd, 4th, 5th- 3kish This is only for daily driving. But usually I just feel the car and shift don't really look at the RPMS -M- |

The key is a dry-sump oil system (or NISMO oil-pump for the VQ if remaining wet-sump), otherwise the OEM oil-pump gears sh1t themselves at sustained running over 7500rpm which turns the engine to toast. |
