Excited to be back after Z was wrecked!

It's been a month and a half since my Z was destroyed in a freak storm as outlined in this thread:

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ated-hail.html

I was getting pretty discouraged. The insurance company was taking a while to get their **** together and I was having trouble finding another Z (I wanted the same color and sport but no touring package). I was starting to think I was going to have to consider other options. :icon14:

Then I finally got the insurance check on Friday and lo and behold on Sunday night I saw a listing for exactly what I wanted at a dealership in New Jersey....same car but a few years newer, a few less miles. I jumped on it first thing Monday morning and brought it home later that evening.

I'm so excited to be back! Driving home from Jersey on Monday night was like a little slice of heaven! I've got some work to do replacing some of my equipment but I expect to be back to pre-devastation operation within just a few weeks....maybe with a few overdue upgrades. ;)

Thank you guys for all of your support in the other thread! This forum is a primary reason why I bought a Z in the first place, and all of you here never disappoint. See you around!

congrats again. :D

Missed your initial thread but I'm caught up now. Glad you're ok and got exactly what you wanted!

Just checked out your last thread on the damage, I would cry to that's so painful to look at.

Was the insurance check at least what you thought it would be?

The insurance took forever, but they ultimately came through in a big way. I got WAY MORE than I thought I would....to the point where the payout was actually higher than what I PAID for the car 2 1/2 years ago.

I thought at the end of the day I would come in somewhere between break even to 2 grand after paying off the loan. It ended up being about 9k, minus my $200 deductible.

Damn, at least through the heartbreak and loss you came out positive and have ur baby back!

I haven't even seen damage like that to any car and I live in the midwest (chicago'ish area)

Thanks! :tiphat:

I'm already working on this. I'm not one for doing really crazy mods, but I do have somewhat of a multi-step plan in the works for the things that are important to me.

1. Replace all of my audio equipment. It was time for some changes anyway.

2. Replace my RJM clutch pedal. I have my old replacement helper spring and that will do for a few weeks, but isn't really a long term solution. Right now I'm just happy to be driving a Z again, but I'm not gonna lie...I forgot how much I dislike the feel of the stock clutch pedal in this car.

3. Finally get a FI exhaust. I've been wanting one for awhile, and I figure if I can place an order in the next few weeks with some luck I can have it delivered and installed before the fall.

4. If by this point the "upgraded" stock oil cooler is doing well I'll leave it alone, otherwise I'll have to get another aftermarket cooler. I don't track my car, but the oil temps in the first Z used to occasionally make me nervous when I was driving hard. I've been told that this has been improved in the '12 but I'm a little skeptical.

5. ...

6. Profit!

This plan is already in motion. I've spent the evening planning out a new audio system top to bottom and just finished placing orders for everything. I figure I'll tell my wife about it tomorrow and give her a couple days to get over the sticker shock. Assuming that she doesn't divorce me  I should be ready to order a new clutch pedal by mid July and the exhaust by the beginning of August. Where I go from there has yet TBD.

Oh man... I remember seeing your thread and it made me feel sick. Glad your insurance company eventually took care of you and you found a little newer & lower mileage replacement. Congrats... you deserve it!

Redglare 07-02-2014 09:13 AM

Wow glad ur back!

SurfDog 07-02-2014 09:26 AM

I am happy for you. Your hail destroyed car was awful.

At first I thought they'd repaired your first car since the photo posted is an exact match. Then I read the post. Good fortune smiled on you.

Glad to see you are whole once again

They originally quoted the appraisal at $23,200. When the check actually arrived it was accompanied by a letter stating that they had done a second appraisal and adjusted the value to $25,500.

Me neither. Good to see you back in a Z and more importantly the insurance came through good.

Man, I took Monday and Tuesday off this week, but when I went back to work on Wednesday it was raining like hell. When I walked into the building one of my coworkers told me that the weather forecast called for a possibility of hail up to the size of ping pong balls. No joke.

I almost turned around to go home. I am absolutely NOT going through that again.

Yeah, we ended up not getting hail, just rain...but I still ended up moving my car under the drive through canopy of the bank across the lot as soon as they closed for the day.

Better safe than sorry.

I know what you mean because I do this obsessively while sitting at red lights. Once I was sitting waiting for a light to change and a young girl plowed into the back end of my car. She was driving while trying to do her makeup in her mirror. No one got hurt but it annihilated the back end of my Sentra and I never even saw it coming.

That was 11 years ago but I guess old habits die hard.

Congrats! Glad everything worked ou.

I'm glad you're back in a Z.

Your original thread made me sick to my stomach, but I sent the pics to my boss and said "this is why I freak out when storms happen, and this is why my breaks are usually longer when storms happen"
