Actually, I think his old engine just all motor was in the 6xxWHP range and he is using a VK56 again but threw on a bottle to push it even farther.

Definitely confused...
Why is 1000 HP necessary for a drift car? Is that much power really beneficial, or could he have continued using his 6XX HP car and kept up with the other competitors? Of all things, why spray? Would a supercharger not be the optimal power-adder?

Not massive, side mount intercoolers, that's for sure...

Open ITB's in a box filter or has that thing got a carburetor???

A blower (especially roots or twin screw) would definitely be the way to go for a road course car, tho'. To ram a car sideways, the shot actuator probably acts like a "slide" button.

Picture of the old engine, but it is the same engine just new now. I believe he sold the original one to another drifter with a 370z. I believe the reason is the shot is to just make instant power to slide and keeping the car NA allows for better cooling and less "issues" during competition.
I don't know all the FD rules, but I know once the competition starts you can call a timeout for only a certain time to 'fix' something and if you do not get to the line you forfeit. So, simplifying the engine/car is key to staying competitive.
