Hmm...in that case, I see no reason it would have hit the rev-limiter in 2nd. Unless -- were you power-shifting? Like did you lift off the throttle in between 1st and 2nd? If you didn't lift in between, then maybe in that split second between gears it ran up to redline and triggered the rev-limiter. That's all I can think of. You already said you had TC off, so that shouldn't kicked in. (I'm just trying to be constructive. ;))

I love it when people go all high and mighty on someone else when they beat their car. Who cares? Its their car...and their money. They didn't grab your keys and beat your car...or your dog :)

Beat away my friend...beat away.

Just take pics/video next time.

You should have seen all the crap after my first oil change that came out w/ the oil...

Wow dude I seen people put there foot in there mouth but you really buried yourself!Brilliant mindset you have!DAH!

Even with VDC off it's not completely "off" you probably either hit rev-limiter and it blipped back down as you tried to shift or you set off a VDC parameter which kicked in. That's my best guess...launching at 4500 is ok if you know how to properly slip the clutch. Get it wrong and you'll bog and or glaze the flywheel/clutch plates which will require a new clutch!

Well I own a Z and sure as hell wouldn't launch it as a drag car?I bought the car because it is a sports car.Not a drag car.I have a drag car and sure wouldn't think of abusing my Z in the manor you have from day one and my opinion is you are a jerk.Immature jerk at a that!
Not only are you the above but you have contradicted yourself by first saying you showed off with you new Z and second post said it wasn"t new and already was broken in and now you say it had 15 miles on it???
Which is it dude?Do you really know what you are talking about at all?

One other thing to be aware of with this car (if you aren't already) is that it has a very heavy flywheel. More mass = more inertia. You may have noticed that in between upshifts, the revs are a little slow to drop -- that's due to the inertia of the flywheel. The way it could factor into what happened is that if you were going WOT, when you disengaged the clutch with all that power going to the flywheel a moment before, the flywheel could have actually gone up in revs momentarily, even if you lifted off the throttle. And if you were really close to redline, it may have been just enough to hit redline and trip the limiter.

Speaking of the flywheel, it's the flywheel you're hearing, not the clutch, and yes I hear it too. It's normal for this car. In fact, flywheel noise is why Nissan put such a heavy flywheel in. They did the same thing in the 350Z. I don't fully understand the technical aspects of it, but a higher mass flywheel = less noise. I had a 350 before the 370 and put in a JWT lightweight flywheel. Man, my car sounded awful after doing that! The performance gain was there, sure. But sitting there at idle with the clutch disengaged? It sounded like something was wrong with my engine! :rofl2:

I have no stake in the matter here...but why do you care how he drives his car? Just curious as to what the mindset is here. Just wondering.

+1. Its his dam car, its not like he is doing it to yours.

Hell the guy might be worth millions and its a throw away car. If he wants to lite his car on fire and sit in the middle of it, its aaaa oooo kayyyy by me. Long as he payed for it and has no more payments haha. I woudlnt want to see nissan get cheated out of what they were owed.

His insurance would pay off Nissan. And for some strange reason, the idea of insurance companies getting screwed doesn't bother me so much.

I'm with you there, for some reason that thought actually makes me really really REALLY happy.

As for the strange sensation I have no new guesses other than what the other guys have said. Have you considered trying a few launches at different (lower) rpms to see if you can recreate it without as much power (and without as much chance to hurt something)? Edit: Or maybe trying a 2500 rpm launch with the VDC still on to see if it is the same sensation as before.

To blown I say :gtfo2: It's his car, he can drive it anyway he chooses. If he blows it up, maybe we will be lucky enough to hear how and it will give us even more information about the cars we all love. From what I've seen in this thread you're the one being immature. The man posted a question, he didn't ask to be treated like a jackass.
