The 1200 KM (750 mile) drive from Edmonton to Vancouver turned the Z's front fender into a graveyard of bugs.

After an eternitity of cleaning, I noticed a gouge in the bumper (stupid rock-throwing trucks!). It was officially plasti-dip time.

Went for another visit to see how things were progressing.

Skirts were being test fitted.

There were some questions of how to deal with the area being shown with the finger. Some people have put screws/bolts there to hold it down.

My shop built up the whole in behind, made it flat and will attach it with 3M tape.

They also built a bracket for the license plate lights/camera/trunk button assembly. They took a piece of CF they had left over from a GTR, built in some bolt holes to hold it all together. Very solid.

They will attach the bolt clips to the CF to hold the license plate. Something like this.

Cranked up the Z for the first time in over 2 weeks due to having surgery. Taking her to my Dr's appointment tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a good day.

I may have given up a little prematurely, but I'm ready to the Z again. Today she got her first ride on a tow truck, as I had her dropped off at Austin Z Clinic.
( Click to show/hide )
She has been on jack stands for over two weeks, and I've only managed to spend a brief part of two different afternoons working on the clutch hydraulic system in that time period. The first day the new heavy duty master and clutch pedal install went great until I heard a pop at the very end of the bleeding process and subsequently lost all clutch pressure. The quick ship replacement master cylinder got to my post office in plenty of time for install last weekend, but USPS managed to screw up the delivery causing me to miss the opportunity Fast forward to 4th of July weekend and another master install (and clutch pedal reinstall), and I still couldn't get pressure bleeding. I had already bought a replacement slave cylinder for my Z1 CSC kit the previous week just in case (and cause only $60), but I had some questions because the new cylinder was different than my old one. Z1 was, of course, closed on the 4th when this came up, so I never got around to the install and bleeding process. But a shout out to Spencer at Z1 for answering all my questions on the replacement slave cylinder today in an extremely timely manner. I'm pretty sure with that knowledge I could have gotten the new slave installed and tried bleeding again in no time at all. But I just didn't want to have problems and then more delays. Time to just let the expert take care of it, which is probably what I should have done in the first place considering my schedule. Here's hoping Kevin will have it all sorted out in less than an hour worth of labor

FWIW, the tow was interesting. No mishaps, thankfully
( Click to show/hide )
The first difficulty was finding a tow company with a truck that could handle the Z without damaging it. Bullet Towing sent out a driver in a flatbed with a shark tail that worked perfectly. We attempted a rear hook first, as it was easiest to just roll the car backwards out of my garage. However, the exhaust can on the driver side appeared to be in the way of the chain before it was taut. The driver was extremely understanding and immediately asked if I preferred to tow from the front. I said yes, although I quickly realized the grill I have on the front bumper blocks access for the tow hook and just decided to remove the entire front bumper for the tow. Once again the driver was extremely accommodating as he had no problem waiting the 5-10 min it took me to remove the bumper. Thinking back, it sure would have been nice if there were a spot for the tow hook on the rear bumper through that opening just above the fog lamp.

New master, new slave, new pedal ... it's all pretty easy. Not sure why I'm having problems. The frustrating part is the delays and not having the time. Subconsciously, I may be doing it on purpose to bolster my argument for another daily driver

Got the Z back a couple hours ago. Kevin said the slave cylinder install and bleeding went fine. He had to adjust the linkage on the slave cylinder. Essentially 2 hours of labor. I drove it home and reinstalled front bumper, fender lining, splash guard, and strut tower brace so I could drive it to work.

After it was warmed up, I noticed some slight grinding noise with the clutch pedal fully depressed. The bottom of the engagement was up an 1" or so from fully depressed, so it's not a problem to avoid fully depressing the pedal. I have to bleed the brakes anyway, so I'll probably make a small adjustment to the linkage while the car is up and see if that fixes things.

Fuckin hell ... ran over an 8"x8" chunk of concrete on the highway today

It dented my 2 month old ZSpeed undershroud, took a few chunks out of the subframe, cracked the LH catalytic converter, nicked up the rear W support and rear sway bar, bashed the fuel tank, and cracked my LH carbon fiber FI exhaust can
