Stupid rock!!

I haven't had my Z for more than a month and while I'm driving home I hear a rock hit my windshield and it left a crack right in front of my view. It's very noticeable and I can't stop staring at it. I'm super pissed. Sorry but I just had to vent a little.

I had damage from a rock in less than a month. Sucks, you get over it and move on. Sorry you have to deal with it though.

Insurance. Go to a glass guy, they can probably make it go away if it's just a tiny spider crack. Larger cracks across the windshield usually require replacement though. Sucks man. I'm still waiting for the first ding, crack, scratch ...

WTF is rocks and new cars? I had this occur on mine within the first 2 weeks although no cracks just two chips and also my previous ride.

It seems as if it is some kind of hazing done by the big guy up above. LOL

It's funny you mention that. I had had my car for 2 months, and while driving it something hit the windshield and left a perfect divot in the glass. No cracks, but a nice round hole that penetrated to the second layer. Windshield repair couldn't remove it totally, but the epoxy resin filled the hole so at least the surface is smooth. I was pretty pissed when that happened myself.

Most you can do there chief is talk to a windshield repair guy and see what he says. The repairs are typically free (after they talk to your insurance company), but the windshield replacement will most likely cost you unless you are willing to make an insurance claim. Either way, best of luck to you.

Same thing happened to me two weeks into getting my Nismo. The chip is in my line of sight and it bugged me for the longest but got over it. Safelite told me they couldn't repair small chips. Just a month after that on the same freeway this dumbass in a Honda Civic was in front of me, moved over a lane to the right and threw an object out the window...hitting my windshield. He took off and got off the freeway. I was super pissed again but again got over it. I got three chips now, eventually I'll have my insurance replace it. You'll get over it dude.

Heh cheer up I had my brand new Maxima with full glass roof for one week when I parked at my house, and then BOOM an electrical transformer above me exploded just as I pulled in. It showered the entire car in molten metal which embedded and cracked every single pane of glass on the car while I was sitting in it. This was probably one of the craziest experiences ever but needless to say every single glass or plastic piece had to be replaced because little molten balls of metal had either cracked or embedded and solidified inside of the cars exterior! yea it does suck, I bet you have glass coverage, just ask for OEM Glass and its all good!

I had a pretty severe chip in my window last week that Safelite told me was unrepairable. Started to freak out until they told me a window replacement was only $350. Not bad in the long run. There was a lot worse that could have happened on my 2200 mile trip.

Good thing here in FL insurance cant charge you for on your deductible on your windshield replacement. Just a month driving my z chipped by a rock.
Safelite did the job with original nissan windshield.

Free windshield on full coverage insurance is something covered under the insurance laws in Florida. I dont believe Cali has that same law, so even the repairs are out of pocket.

Dang... sorry to hear OP. If misery likes company, I've got three small rock chips on my WS too. I'm the only one that notices them, and they drive me nuts. I had a WS repair place look at them and they're not big enough to repair. I'm gonna have the WS replaced sometime but I am getting more used to the chips. Good luck on the repair or replace.

kenchan 06-16-2014 09:04 AM

wat is WS? ohhh.. windshield... NM

(never mind)

if its a crack, get it filled. i paid 20bucks to get 2 rock chips filled with resin. the cracks are completely gone and all thats there is a tiny dot from the initial impact of the rock.

Limeybastard 06-16-2014 12:45 PM

The irony for me. Just noticed a deep scratch on my rear rim. Looks like a rock skimmer over the surface of a spoke. Damn rocks!
