It's funny you mention that. I had had my car for 2 months, and while driving it something hit the windshield and left a perfect divot in the glass. No cracks, but a nice round hole that penetrated to the second layer. Windshield repair couldn't remove it totally, but the epoxy resin filled the hole so at least the surface is smooth. I was pretty pissed when that happened myself.
Most you can do there chief is talk to a windshield repair guy and see what he says. The repairs are typically free (after they talk to your insurance company), but the windshield replacement will most likely cost you unless you are willing to make an insurance claim.
