I'm in San Diego again...

Just got back to SD. Trying to get my stock exhaust off but the bolts won't budge. Anyone around d to help me out?

do you have a mallet? try your combination wrench (box end) and hammer it with your mallet ccw. wear safety glasses.

that's wat i use to do before getting my impact drivers. WD40 helps too. soak it real good.

I'll have to go pick one up. I don't have a jack or anything either so I don't have much room.

Get a torch and heat it up

oh i c... yah, the reason for the combination wrench + mallet vs breaker bar is just that. not much room under the car with a long arm breaker bar....

but sounds like you need more help than just that.

I'm gonna try the combo wrench and mallet first. If that don't work then I guess I'll have to take it to a shop.

Try PB Blaster with a 12" breaker bar. That's worked for me.

Nissan has a passion for over torquing and stripping a lot of their exhaust bolts. I would at least get the car off the ground a little, let some PB blaster eat away at some of the rust for a few hours and then try your hardest not to break the studs.

I had to cut most of mine off with a dremel and cutting wheel - it was a PITA. The bolts connecting the catalytic converter came right off, but the further back the tougher they got. Even up on jack stands not much room for a breaker bar, soaked them, torched them, no go.
Good luck

I'm in Esco, from where are you trying to remove it? Like the CATs back?

RZ14 05-21-2014 12:51 PM

It's a muffler delete. I just picked up some tools. One of the bolts looks a bit stripped. Can I just file each side flat again and take it off?

This might be dumb but are you turning the right way. You know, left = loose.

I say because it happened to me back in the day when I had Spec V Sentra and I was messing up the bolts trying to loosen when I was actually tightening.

Haha. Actually I made sure on a different set of bolts so I wasn't making that mistake.

I have air tools/a shít load of tools if you can't get them off

RZ14 05-21-2014 04:25 PM

Every bolt is stripped. I tried grinding one off and now I have a mess. These aren't coming off now unless I can find a way to drill the bolts out and just replace them.
