Anyone wearing boots to drive manual?

I used to like wearing boots and got forced to quit after I had my Z. Been wearing soft bottom shoes since then otherwise I would stall the car once every mile...:ugh2:

So anyone been wearing boots and drive manual?

KeVoH 05-12-2014 10:46 AM

I tried to use crocs and I think i pressed all 3 pedals at once LOL. Cant do... Normal shoes here.. :p

kenchan 05-12-2014 10:48 AM

i dont in my z, but i wear snow boots in the winter on my dd and drive its MT no issue.

Masterbeatty 05-12-2014 10:52 AM

I wear my NAVY working boots in my manual every day. It is like second nature to me now.

JARblue 05-12-2014 10:53 AM

I wear steel-toed Red Wing boots everyday to work. No problem driving the Z in them.

That being said, I drive barefoot any other time. I keep sandals under the driver seat because I have forgotten shoes more than once when going out somewhere.

I had a pair of red wings for work and loved them. Then people had to change things and they were no longer authorized to were in uniform.:shakes head:

Funny thing is i can still heel-toe in boots! But not bare feet

Chuck33079 05-12-2014 11:02 AM

Size 13EEE feet+boots= a complete inability for me to hit just the gas or brake pedal. :rofl2:

 :icon17: Barefoot.

Isn't driving barefoot technically illegal in TX? :stirthepot:

:p

12EE here. I am going to have to adjust my RJM clutch pedal a little higher than I originally thought. The toes of my boot keep hitting the upper arm part of the pedal assembly.

It is. I've even gotten out of a ticket for it before :icon17:

I was pulled over for speeding at a time when my driver side window didn't roll down (my old Ford Explorer 5MT). The cop had me get out of the car completely, and I totally forgot I was barefoot. He stopped mid-sentence and told me it was illegal to drive barefoot.

I had to explain to him that operating a clutch in sandals has gone bad for me before (sandal got stuck on the brake pedal). He said the law was to ensure that I don't hurt my foot stepping on something sharp in the floor board and panic hitting other pedals or not being able to use the pedal. I calmly pointed to my bare feet on black asphalt in the afternoon Texas sun (probably in the neighborhood of 120F at the time), and said, "If this isn't bothering my feet, stepping on a sharp pebble isn't going to bother me." He grinned sheepishly and agreed. I think it helped that I was able to show him a very clean driver side floor board.

I still got a speeding ticket, but he didn't write me up for being barefoot

I wear high heal boots and nothing else. Is that legal?

no problem feeling the clutch? I had a very hard time with clutch feeling in boots. I didn't install any helper spring.

cooltoy 05-12-2014 12:42 PM

Sorry. I was just joking.

I wear runners. And nothing else.;)

KramChaos 05-12-2014 12:45 PM

I won't wear my steel toes when driving...hate them when heel toe shifting. Always wear Nike Frees and put on the steel toes when I get to work

I did alright. About a year ago I removed the stock spring (didn't really help or hurt the feel). A few weeks ago I removed the clutch pedal entirely. The RJM Performance clutch pedal assembly I installed is so much better than the stock garbage. Completely different feel. Like Mr. Onzedge put it: makes it feel like a whole new car.

I've always had a little difficulty doing a manual heel-toe maneuver in the Z. I chalk it up to the accelerator pedal being a bottom-fulcrum, but I can see the advantages of that style when limit braking.

I don't bother to heel-toe in my boots since I can just use SRM.

nukee 05-12-2014 02:08 PM

I've got a pair of composite-toed boots I wear everyday to work and have absolutely no issues. My problem is that I'm a bit rough on the clutch when I'm wearing anything else like sneakers haha. I've debated wearing sneakers to work and swapping for my boots when I get there...

forza370z 05-12-2014 02:51 PM

I wear Geta and drive my manual 370z. Oh yeah:tup:

When I wear my bunny slippers, sometimes my foot slips off the clutch.

tnav 05-12-2014 11:56 PM

Drive with no shoes, once you do, you will never wear anything again

same here for days the Z comes to work

Duc_Z09 05-13-2014 05:12 AM

I drive in my steel toe Doc Martens all the time with no issues. Actually I have yet to stall my Z even once. I wear size 9 shoes though... might be a different story if I were size 12 or something. Also, I always adjust the seat to account for whether I'm wearing my Docs vs my Merrells.

Fountainhead 05-13-2014 09:20 AM

Yeah I've never liked driving without shoes, although my wife always has. Now, withe the Z, I love driving with no shoes. So much better control of the clutch pedal. Z clutch isn't the easiest you know? I don't often find myself able to drive without shoes as I'm always going to work! But I do when I can.

On Topic: I don't own a pair of boots. Last pair I had was when my son was Scouting years ago.

jcosta79 05-13-2014 09:24 AM

I wear boots in the winter. No problems driving.

Zteve 05-13-2014 02:00 PM

wore my combat boots when i had a manual shift car years ago, it is a PITA but manageable

Better wipe real good or your seats will get poo stains.

jpkirk 05-13-2014 03:40 PM

um, yea, no. If I need boots, I probably need the truck.

Blu Z 05-13-2014 03:54 PM

In my truck I've driven with everything & nothing. When wearing flip-flops my left foot tends to get caught in the mat so I just take them off.
In the Z I've driven in some cowboy boots with no problem, but not tried the steel-toed work boots yet. Drove in some flip-flops the other day; no problems with them getting caught on the WeatherTechs, but it definitely isn't the best footwear for driving a stick.

USINC97 05-17-2014 01:34 AM

Docksiders in the winter, sandals in the summer. My work boots hang up on the pedals.

alcheng 05-17-2014 03:05 AM

this should give you a more direct feel with the gas and clutch pedal:

Imperial 05-17-2014 04:57 AM

Frye, Red Wing, White's Boots, Ariat... etc. with no problems here. I like my boots ;-)
